NIGHTMARE VACATION!!! All services offered through resort have hidden fees and staff will brush over these costs. Do not fall for the predatory timeshare they keep saying is not a timeshare. It's a waste of time, and they will try to trick/ demand you deposit after they force you to meet with them for 90-120 minutes. We were stranded in Playa Del Carmen on our last night when the touring company Vacaciones Barcelo caused us to miss the last ferry from Xcaret. They were supposed to leave at 9:40 PM to make the last ferry at 10 PM. However, they did not leave until 9:47 PM and arrived at the drop-off spot at 9:58 PM, a 5-7 minute walk to the ferry. We missed the ferry, and the ticket agents laughed, and when we explained, they knew we would never make it. ***ACCORDING TO TRAVELOCITY STAFF, THE RESORT REFUSES TO APPROVE A ONE-NIGHT REFUND BECAUSE WE MADE THE MISTAKE OF CHECKING IN. THEREFORE, PER POLICY, PEOPLE WHO CHECK IN CAN NOT HAVE A REFUND.*** THE LESSON LEARNED IS THIS RESORT DOES NOT CARE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF GUESTS BY GUARANTEEING THE SERVICES WILL RETURN YOU AS PROMISED. Food 0/5 Buffet made me sick. Fruits were not ripe, food was bland, and they did not change food frequently. Cups and silverware were dirty. The specialty restaurants allow one reservation per stay. It was the only place that had decent food on the resort. Staff 4/5 You will have to speak with 5 people to get a complete answer, and no one is ever on the same page. Property 3.5/5 Inviting

The check-in was too long and the next day they forced us to take timeshare tour when we specifically told them we are not interested. Originally the tour was supposed to be 45 min, but ended up 2,5 hours which we could have spent on the beach. Buffet food did not have many selections, no difference between lunch and dinner or by day. People used dirty pates when they approached the buffet and used their utensils to grab food. Ohh and there is a check-in to enter the buffet which most people in line including me found to be ridiculous. Why do we need to check in if this is all inclusive resort? at times the lines were long just to enter the buffet area. If the servant anyways comes to your table and asks if you would like to drink something they can easily take the room number as they do in any other buffet such as in casinos. Seafood restaurant is a joke. I expected to have local fish but the menu listed questionable seafood casserole, steak, and chicken breast items. The only good thing about this resort is their staff. Amazing, friendly, professional and super observant. No to this resort but Cozumel is definitely beautiful.

1st floor super humid and many bugs. Royal level the best accommodation. Will only stay in royal. The staff was excellent and helpful. Didn’t like that they charged for COVID tests. That could have been more organized. Hated the buffet. Very unclean.

lets start with check in. I checked in at royal level and was met by Gabrielle. She was rude. So rude. After traveling all day, the last thing you want to do is deal with a rude and mean employee. The room was average as expected. It was fine for the purpose of sleeping. The beach and water are beautiful and clean and so is the property. I would say Occidental falsely advertises the restaurants. If you do not book royal level, only expect to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at a buffet everyday. If you book royal level you have to make reservations for the restaurants. They give you the run around about reservations. After insisting reservations, i showed up at restaurants only to be turned away. I think the resort doesn't really want you to eat at any restaurant expect the buffet. I did have a good experience at the royal level restaurant with Carlos and Carlos, they were very nice and helpful. Pedro with entertainment on the beach was great with the kids and the activities. I had a pair of very expensive sunglasses stolen from my bag out of my room. I have never ever had that happen before. I travel often and have never given any resort a bad review because I believe that nothing is perfect. But between trying to eat something other than buffet food all week and having my personal things stolen, i give this resort a solid 2.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our only concern was limited availability to the non-buffet restaurants. They could not accommodate our group any of the nights.

This was by far the worst vacation I have ever taken!We ended up buying a time share with them on day 2 before any of the craziness started.The time share people were great!They work for Barcelo. They gave us several coupons for the excursions, the rental Jeep and one massage. When we set up the Jeep and one excursion the guy who set it up took all the occidental money we had and he wasn’t supposed too, he still charged us for talum on top of the coupons and the for the Jeep. He took all that money from us. We had no idea what was going on cause it was pecos and we didn’t know the conversion. Going to talum we were told a taxi would be there at 6am to get us and it was paid for, no taxi was waiting n we had to pay for it. When we got to the ferry we were told it was $3, it was $30!By the time we got there we barely had any money left.When we got back we were upset and felt like we were ripped off, especially since we still wanted to go snorkeling. We went over to the time share people and talked to them about the issue and they told us we didn’t have to pay for snorkeling cause this happened. We scheduled snorkeling for our last day and they still tried to charge us when we were booking and when we were leaving. The morning we were leaving we got up got our suit cases out and went to breakfast, we didn’t check out yet. The cleaning people went in when they weren’t supposed too and stole things from the room. We will not be returning!
