Overbooked - Got bumped to a different resort

Pros: Good food, even at the buffets. Great service. Gorgeous beach. Enough activities to keep everyone busy.
Cons: More help at the pool bar would be nice. Had to wait in line for a drink almost every time.
This review is going to be about our entire Cozumel vacation experience. The first thing I would like to mention is that if you are staying in Cozumel and are landing in Cancun, make sure you have enough time to get down to the port in Playa del Carmen (about 45 minutes from the airport) before the last ferry leaves for the day, which is usually 10 pm. We did not know this until a day before our vacation and had to switch our flights around. The ferry ride is beautiful from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. There are 3 different companies that run at different times, so don't book a round trip ticket, just in case that company isn't running at the time you need to return. We got to the Allegro resort l;ate on Friday night and was told they were overbooked and we were being "upgraded" to the Occidental Grand resort next door. They paid for our taxi ride there. Check in at Occidental went smooth, but we ended up with a room with 2 double beds. We were too exhausted to even bother changing to a room with a king bed. We don't spend much time in our room anyway. We did have an issue with our toilet one day, reported it that morning, and before noon it was fixed. Very nice resort. We were in building 12, which was up towards the front of the resort so it was a long walk to the pool/beach. Good food. Fun activities at the pool. Gorgeous beach. We kayaked and snorkeled.

Travelocity is oblivious

Visited this hotel before, great place to stay, Travelocity is apparently completely unaware it is currently and temporarily closed.

3rd stay not so good

Pros: very friendly room maids and waiters. Also, the resort is beautiful from a landscaping perspective. Very well taken grounds.
Cons: the rooms! they need updated and maintenence needs to be done more often to keep things in better running condition
Location: location is well away from town that provides a quiet atmoshere. Mr. Sanchos is right next door to resort if you have kids
this was our 3rd stay at the ALLEGRO in Cozumel and it was a bad experience. We had a group of 8 and we were supposed to have 4 rooms that were adjoining and next to each other and they split us up on opposite sides of the resort. Our phone in our room did not work for 4 days after everyday going to the lobby to ask them to fix it. This was our only way to communicate with our family since our cell phones don't work in Mexico. Our toilet also was not working for 4 days. After 4 days and repeated promises from the lobby workers they finally got it fixed. The air conditioning in our room and our in-laws room were not keeping our rooms cool the entire 7 days that we were there. Hotel maintence said the rooms were fine. NOT!! The previous 2 stays were wonderful but this time was a major let down. If this would have been our 1st visit here then it would have been our last one as well. We were also supposed to be upgraded with extra perks in our room but we didn't receive anything different from the 1st timers. We were atleast to have a refridgerator in our rooms and never got one even after continual request to hotel lobby staff. Come on Allegro, you can do better!

Sewer gas in room bad head aches. Food was good

The rooms and outside had sewer gas. We could not sleep. From 9:00 "pm till morning 8,:00 am.. The food was good and the staff was good..

Warning! Stay away.

Pros: The beach and limited service people.
Cons: Provide proper maintenance. Fire existing management and hired better quality and more intelligent staff. The food quality needs improvement.
Location: Not near anything. Need to get transportation to go downtown for shopping and to go around to see the limited Mayan ruins.
The beach was the nicest part along with some of the maids and restaurant servers . Was there for five days and had to change rooms four times due to poorly maintained rooms. Most rooms lack air conditioning and warm water. Also, sewage smell was prevalent in half of the rooms. Management could have cared less and I had to be persistent until they finally provided a decent room. One of the pools had to be filled daily due to the water leaking out in the large cracks present. Food availability at the all inclusive resort was not served continuously all day. This caused long lines to form especially when they opened for lunch. The most informative person was one of the workers who was selling time shares. Go to another resort whose facility is maintained and the workers are trained and really care.

Beware !

Pros: Free breakfast
I requested early check in - had to wait 4 hours Room was dirty, AC did not work - it took 2 days to get it medium clean and next day for the AC The grounds are NOT pretty, too much area for the kids - NO flowers anywhere The food is medium, drinks are served in the cheapest plastic glasses. The buffets are good - the service is medium at best. The location is good - Better to spend more $$ somewhere else !

Cons: No free Internet, Noisy, Poor breakfast
We booked this vacation for Spring Break, 2013. We brought our daughters for a week of relaxation and lying by the pool. We chose an all-inclusive because we have had great luck in the past and because we love Cozumel. This was the worst trip we have ever booked. Check-in was great! We were greeted almost immediately and taken to our rooms fairly quickly. The rooms were dirty and appeared to be thrown together. Our daughters room was on the second floor and the first thing they pointed out was that they could see the sky throught the roof. A point of concern as they dont want to be rained on and dont like sleeping with critters. The beds in both rooms were not as comfortable as a sheet of plywood would have been. We have never slept on beds as hard and uncomfortable as these beds. On the third day it rained and the fun began. My wife and I had moved to the upstairs room next to our daughters when it came available, therefore, we had a thatched roof as well. We drove into town to shop and while we were gone it rained very heavily. When we returned to our rooms they were flooded. The beds were standing in water, the floor was completely soaked, the TV cabinet was soaked. We called for room service, they sent a housekeeper who promptly changed the linens on the soaked beds. The fresh linens were then soaked. After much persistence, we were able to convince the staff to replace the mattresses. The soaked and already black moldy mattresses were replaced with dry, black moldy mattresses. Much of our belongings were soaked with rain water and we were able to dry most of it out, however, one of our daughters Iphones was completely ruined along with a book that we had bought for the trip. No offer to repair or replace these items even though they were ruined because of the resorts incompetence. The food was barely edible. Food handling is not a priority there. Many times we watched the staff scrape spilled food off the counter top near the food bins and throw it right back into the bins. The resort was full and there definitely was not enough staff to handle the guests that were booked. We waited in lines for almost everything, not because there was not enough room, there were many tables available each time. We waited for one of the few staff to be available to accomadate the waiting guests. We were very disappointed. We did not get the level of service one would expect for the price we paid.

Dirty rooms, bad food...

Cons: Noisy, dirty
The first thing I noticed when we checked into our room was cob webs hanging from the curtain rods. The rooms have definitely not been remodeled in a while either, but I was able to overlook the dingy tile and dust throughout the entire room UNTIL I found crumbled Pringles chips in BOTH of the double beds in our room. They had obviously not bothered changing the sheets before we checked in. I realized this around 10 PM. I called down to the front desk and requested that the sheets be changed. It took 3 phone calls after the initial call and an hour of waiting before housekeeping showed up to change them. This was frustrating as we were tired and wanting to go to bed. Aside from cleanliness, there were other issues. The food was edible at best. The lunch buffet is not even worth eating as the food is so low quality and the line to get a table was usually at least a 15 minute wait. Do not even bother making reservations at their "a la carte" restaurants because the food is TERRIBLE. I could not believe that the buffet food was better than a made-to-order meal but it was. Surprisingly the drinks were pretty decent. All frozen drinks were very good - this was a pleasant surprise as I find that the frozen drinks are usually not worth drinking at all inclusive’s but this was not the case at Allegro. The absolute worst thing about this hotel is the lack of sound proofing in the walls. Unless you don't have anyone staying in the rooms above, behind or beside you, you will probably not get a good night’s rest during your stay. You can hear EVERYTHING that people in adjoining rooms are saying. This is not an exaggeration. My husband and I had to purchase $8.00 ear plugs from the gift shop and could still hear every word that our neighbors were saying. Unfortunately for us, the people staying in the room directly behind us liked to stay up until 3:00 am every morning and party. We got NO sleep on this vacation due to this issue. We changed from a bottom floor room to a top floor room thinking that it would be less noisy but we were wrong. In the bottom floor room you could hear every step that was taken by the people above you and could hear water running anytime the sink or shower was used. We moved to a top floor room thinking our problems would be solved but found things were worse up there. The top floor rooms have a thatched roof so there is literally nothing but straw for a sound barrier between the top of your room and the adjoining rooms. One morning our neighbors were smoking and our room wreaked of smoke. All in all, I would not return. This place is pretty low quality overall.
