As scuba divers, we have stayed in Cozumel for over 30 years. La Ceiba is now be our new home away from home!!! We lived near Cabo San Lucas so we know about staying in hotels with old Colonial charm and this is one of the best in the world! The staff is dedicated, honest, hard working and kind. They show you the true spirit behind the Mayan people and they are awesome! It was a pleasure sitting on our balcony and watching how each day the staff cleaned every inch of the hotel with a happy rhythm. Each day we started our day off with the breakfast buffet and just loved it! There was tropical, fresh fruit and a freshly made green juice that just started our day off right as we drank our hot coffee and ate our warm tortillas and watched the fish from the crystal clear waters at the restaurant. On Mother's day there was a knock on our door and our Maid was there with a basket of candy that she offered us to help ourselves to. If you want a five star corporate hotel, this is not the one for you. But if a real cultural destination that has clean rooms, great organic toiletries, comfy beds and a great ocean view, this is the one for you. We have already planned our next trip back! Upper management must love their jobs because they do such a great job and that kind of positive attitude moved right down to every member of their staff. We felt like we were staying at our Mayan Grandparent's home and they really loved us! So very safe and secure...Thanks again, Jerome Santos

Great value

Pros: Great snorkeling beach
Location: Great location...close to shopping and restaurants.
We stayed here for 6 nights after a cruise. The hotel is very nice and located close to a lot of shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly. We did not get the all inclusive but our booking included the continental breakfast, which was not worth even going to. When we went to the breakfast buffet to get our free breakfast, we were told that only all inclusive can walk through the line. We had to sit at a table and tell a waiter what fruit and pastry we wanted from the buffet (not allowed anything else). We ate most of our dinners at the restaurant because the food was very good and the prices were great. The beach is more of a snorkeling beach. There were plenty of chairs but limited shade (first come first served setup). The room was very nice and the view was great. They talked us into doing the 90 minute time share pitch (offered up some great incentives). The first half of the pitch was in the restaurant with a free lunch. Started off ok but as the saleswoman realized we weren't gonna commit, she started getting rude. After the free lunch sales pitch we were told we had to leave the tip (kinda weird). Then we went to the sales office were she became more hostile because we weren't seeing the value in it for us to sign up. After the 90 minutes we were set free and given the percs that were promised. overall its a great spot for the value...would go back.

Value hotel

We had to fly in a day early. The queen room we booked the first night was really a pull out sofa bed, when we complained that it was so bad I tried sleeping on the cushions on the floor, the front desk didn’t say anything except the room we booked for the rest of our stay was better. The ocean view prestige room was much better and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is older, but pretty clean, not more than a 3 star 2 1/2 if it wasn’t on the ocean. Beach area was small, but not crowded, food was ok at best. We tried to eat at the local places around there. Drinks were either Terrible tasting or really weak. Everything was adequate, we were there to scuba dive, not for the resort amenities. If you are diving, the resort is overpriced and wouldn’t match the local dive shop prices we found, so shop around a bit before you choose!

Be aware of time-share pull...

Pros: Cleanliness
Cons: Offer discounts and packages the second day of stay, not immediately.
Location: Great beach spot, but cruise ships will partially block your view.
It might be pervasive across Cozumel and Cancun, but don't get lured into accepting packages for time-shares. They will waste your time, especially when you just arrived and want to get some sleep.

Stayed Mar 4th - 11th 2017. I would give 4 star

Cons: Maybe offer dehumidifier for rooms and a water dispenser. We went through a lot of bottle water while there (just seems a lot of waste of plastic).
Nice place, service of all the staff was really wonderful (friendly and speedy) and the same so for the staff of the restaurant La Chopa. If I needed anything staff was always willing to help. The entertainment director (Adrian) was so nice. Hotel has a great location, except for the fact cruise ships park real close to property (so view was blocked a lot, really sucked when you wanted to watch sunset) and hearing the partying next door at Senor Frogs. I have never been to Cozumel before, so I didn't expect the rooms to be so humid (didn't like sticking to my sheets). Those who cleaned my room, did a wonderful job and left cute towel characters everyday, but occasionally forgot to replace a cloth or towel (but that happens sometimes, no big deal). If you want to go to town square it was only a $6 cab ride. but if you want to see sights around island I suggest renting a car for 2 days (went to San Gervasio ruins and cab ride was $60. for round trip - driver has to wait there for you).

Our 2nd stay at El Cid

Location: Close to airport and shopping
We just got back from our 2nd stay at El Cid. We loved it and will return. The snorkeling is amazing! The staff are top notch. Adrian, Paulina and Virginia to name a few. This is a small resort which is what we like about it. All the rooms are ocean front. It is a quick cab ride from the airport and you can walk down to the pier and go shopping. If your looking for a small laid back place to sun, snorkel and relax this is a perfect spot.

Self-contained hotel with ocean view

Pros: Swimming, room and meals
Cons: The location is not near el centro. Taxi was 200 pesos (~10 USD) each way for 4 people. [There was a 10-minute hard sell upon arrival to book tours.
Location: See above. There is a small shopping center across the road. Not much near by.
We booked sight unseen. We didn't do the "all-inclusive" and were okay with that. We still did some activities for free and charged meals to the room. The swimming opportunities were very convenient and excellent for fish viewing.

great if you are a diver.

Hotel was not what we were use too. There is no beach in front of the hotel to walk on just a 100 ft of sand that they put in. Rooms were clean but dated. food was good for a all inclusive place. Everybody in our hotel were divers. If you like to dive this is a good place to go. No night life at all. Everything closes at 4:30 pm and is only open when the cruise ships are in. If you go to Cozumel check out paradise beach it was very nice.
