"Beach-front hotel, family friendly"
This was our second stay at the Royal Sands, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were upgraded to an oceanfront suite, and the view was great. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the suites have full kitchens, although we did not use ours much as we were on the all inclusive plan. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there were multiple dining options, from fine to casual. Sipping tropical drinks on the beach or around one of the pools was a pleasant way to spend the afternoons. This is a timeshare resort, and we were offered a presentation, but there was no pressure when we declined this. We appreciated the quiet and family friendly atmosphere of the resort. Although everyone appeared to be having a good time, this is not a "party hearty" type of place. Many families with children were present.

The hotel was great. The bed was terrible. I stayed 4 nights, my back was aching every day. But, it might just be me. Im 6'4" tall so that could be the reason. Other than that the hotel is nice, has a great ocean view, the staff is excellent

"Nice resort but missing something overall"
This was a very nice resort but there was just something overall that made us feel like we didn't get our full value. But we can't compare to other hotels in Cancun because this was our first time in Mexico. But for about the same price we could have stayed at the JW or Ritz Carlton and the VDP is just not quite at that same level. Maybe it was just pricing and availability and timing - we booked late. But overall the Villas del Palmar is a nice resort. Plenty of very good restaurants to choose from, a calendar full of pool/beach activities, and very nice and attentive staff. The hotel room was different than the online photos but still very nice. The hammocks were a huge plus! The timeshare sales people were a little pushy but we opted out and after a couple days they stopped calling. We went during spring break but we never felt like it was crowded or never had to wait long at any of the onsite restaurants. I heard that was different over in the hotel zone area which VDP is not in the same area, it is off by itself down a long secluded road. Maybe we should have ventured out to explore the touristy beach area of Cancun but we didn't, I feel that scene should be saved for our frequent FL trips, but while in Cancun we wanted to do real Mexico things. We visited Chicken Itza and another small historical town and we went swimming in a cenote and wanted to visit Isle Mujeres and snorkel at the reef but my daughter got sick so had to forego another excursion.

"The definition of PERFECT"
Our stay can be summarized in one word, PERFECT!! From the time we arrived until the time we checked out was the definition of the perfect week. I used to train new employees on customer service for a large retail store and believe me when i say the Omni does it right. Not only was the staff amazing, the hotel was as beautiful as all the pictures it posts on its website. The restaurants and pools were wonderful. We spent our entire week being pampered.

"Fantastic stay!"
We were greeted at our taxi with a staff who picked up our luggage and guided us to a receptionist who directed us to the front desk while another handed us drinks. The staff escorted us to check out the room for approval and once the room was approved delivered our luggage. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean with an exquisite ocean view. The restaurants were all delicious. Encourage you to wander away from the buffet lines and settle into one of the fantastic dinners at Maria's or Il Pescatore. The breakfast buffet was delicious at the ocean side restaurant. All the staff were readily available and there to provide the best experience possible. Veronica was assigned to us when we arrived as a sort of personal concierge. She took care of everything and was simply a joy to work with. We have worked with concierge all over the world and have never me anyone so positive and helpful. She is one of the reasons that we will return!

"Modern hotel right on the beach"
As soon as we pulled up to the hotel the staff was there greeting us and handing us coconut milk...which we traded for a cold beer and mimosa. Check in was easy but they give you too much info and we were exhausted from our flights so we didn't remember half of what they told us. They take you over to the activities desk where they explain which excursions you can use your room credit on. We booked ours later at the info desk by the spa after we got some rest and more information. This was our second time in Cancun so we had already done most the excursions that were listed for room credit. We went in January and it was windy and warm every day so we didn't get to snorkel. Last time we came in February and I don't remember it being windy and we enjoyed snorkeling. We choose Garrafon Reef park which I do NOT recommend. The boat ride took forever to get there and then you're stuck on this island for 3 hours. It was windy so we weren't able to snorkel or use kayaks. You can pay extra to swim with dolphins but we had done that before. There is a quick 3 line zip-line that is good for beginners. Lunch was a buffet of weird foods. We really wished we hadn't wasted a day on this excursion.

"1st time stay, and it was EXCELLENT in every way!"
I booked a 3 night stay with my husband based on recommendations from two friends with very different travel styles. I had very high expectations because of their reviews and the cost. Every expectation was met - staff were really wonderful, genuinely friendly and accommodating, the pools were awesome, the beach was lovely, service was excellent, food was delicious, there was plenty to do (or not do). We stayed in the junior suite (non excellence club) and it was perfect - no need to upgrade on our opinion although many others suggest otherwise. I highly recommend this hotel for a short or long romantic stay.

"Wonderful vacation hotel"
The hotel was wonderful. A beautiful place and wonderful staff. The problem was with Travelocity! Before we left I had read about extra fees for the "athletic facilities". Travelocity sent a note back that I could expect an answer in 48 hrs. They sent a response 10 days later on the last day of our vacation. I highly recommend making your reservation directly thru the hotel or thru another travel provider. I do not intend to use Travelocity again.

"LOTS OF FOOD OPTIONS, NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL"
PROS: LOTS OF FOOD OPTIONS, 7-8 RESTAURANTS AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD. KIDS CLUB THAT WILL WATCH YOUR KIDS AGED BETWEEN 2 AND 12 YEARS OLD BASICALLY FOR AS LONG AS YOU WANT. MULTIPLE SWIM AREAS WITH DEPTHS VARYING FROM 1' TO 6'. SERVERS AND CLEANING STAFF OFFERED GREAT SERVICE. CONS: THE ROOM LEFT A LOT TO BE DESIRED. PATCHY AND BROKEN TILE IN THE BATHROOM, STAINED AND UNREPAIRABLE VANITY MIRROR, THE ABSOLUTE WORST AIR CONDITIONED ROOM I HAVE EVER STAYED IN: THE A/C WOULD BASICALLY SHUT OFF UNTIL THE ROOM WOULD GET HOT, AND THEN YOU WOULD RECEIVE A POLAR BLAST FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THEN THE A/C WOULD SHUT OFF AND REPEAT THE PROCESS. THIS MADE FOR AN AWFUL NIGHT OF SLEEP, YOU WERE HOT FOR 5 MINUTES, THEN FREEZING FOR 30 SECONDS, HOT AGAIN, THEN FREEZING. YOU GET THE POINT. THIS ALONE WAS ENOUGH FOR ME NOT TO WANT TO RETURN TO THIS HOTEL. LASTLY, THE CONSTANT TIME SHARE BADGERING FROM PERSONNEL AROUND THE HOTEL MADE IT UNCOMFORTABLE TO JUST EVEN WALK AROUND. THERE ARE A BUNCH OF HOTEL EMPLOYEES HANGING AROUND THE HOTEL, AND IF YOU SO MUCH AS LOOK AT THEM, THE SELL BEGINS. MY WIFE AND I REALLY HATED THIS.
