"We had a very enjoyable two day stay at Hillside. At check-in I was greeted warmly and it was a breeze. I was given information on the restaurant, bar and check out time at the end of my stay. Clear directions were given to our room. This property has several buildings with eight rooms in each. Our room included a small balcony with chairs and was shaded by large live oak trees. We did not use the pool, but it looked well kept and inviting. There is a small yard space with a covered overlook - the view was beautiful. There is a spa onsite, but you will need to book ahead of time. We had a short stay and other items on our agenda so were not able to book an appointment. We enjoyed a drink in the bar on our first night, the staff was inviting and very attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant looked nice, but we did not have a chance to enjoy. All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful - really seem to enjoy working at Hillside. We had a two queen room. It had a small table with chairs, dresser and a refrigerator. The bathroom was a good size and the water pressure in the shower was delightful! I would love to return here for a longer stay and enjoy the spa. Castroville is a quaint little Texas town with a rich history of it's French/German beginnings. Take time to check out the town."

"This place was disgusting. They shouldn’t be allowed to have guests stay. Stained carpets, furniture, shower was gross. Toilet was dirty. Bugs! Did I mention bugs??!! It was so bad I left and didn’t go back. Avoid this hotel at all costs."

"After reading the reviews, I was confident that this hotel would be clean and comfortable, although I was somewhat skeptical because of the low price. Upon entering the lobby, there was a strong odor. The staff member was friendly and helpful, assisting us with an issue we had using the key card to access our room. While the room appeared clean overall, there was a noticeable mildew smell, and the restroom had a tobacco odor. Additionally, the bathtub had a black ring around the drain area. In the future, I would prefer to trust my instincts and pay a little more for accommodations elsewhere."
