I stayed here on a weekly basis back in the 80's. It had been 40 years since I last stayed here, and it was great then. The lobby is still great, but that's it. Our room was horribly musty and dated, dirty towels in the closet, no coffee maker in the room, hair in the bathroom, pillows smelled like dirty feet. The lower level shops are all but gone. I will not stay here again.

Palmer House is an excellent location. Plenty of restaurants, parks and shopping are nearby. The subway is just outside one of the exits. The hotel is huge, with exits to four different streets. A bar, restaurant, coffee shop, Starbucks and a sweet shop all convenient in the hotel area. I marked 4/5 starts only because of the size of our room. Tiny! So check with them if you need a larger space. Overall, a great trip.

We paid high prices for this room. Not enough water pressure to fill tub, and not enough hot water. Asked for assistance, but no help until morning. In the morning the plumber came, but said it could not be fixed without major repair. Woke up to walls sweating and mirrors steamed. A/C not working...hot and humid. Had asked for help with thermostat the night before but electrician was not sent until morning. Was able to fix unit. Instead of enjoying a morning of rest, we spend our time with two repair men in our room and fighting with the hotel and Expedia to get a discount. They gave a few minor adjustments, not worth even 25% off. Hotel with a big reputation but facilities and customer service really lacking.

This hotel was definitely more ritzy than I normally am used to but I chose this hotel because of it's location regardless of what I am used to and in this regard the hotel was perfect. Upscale hotel with loads of history was a bonus.

Gorgeous landmark with modern amenities

The Palmer House is an historic landmark in Chicago. Once the largest hotel in the world, this massive urban entertainment hub remains largely unchanged in its original splendor. But the beds are new and comfortable, and the TVs big. There are cafes, stores, and a Starbucks on the premises, and many rooms outfitted with mini fridges. Great neighborhood, close to the Art Institute.

Beautiful historic hotel! Loved the live music in the lobby. I was there in a traditional room sith 2 double beds, and then i upgraded to a suite. Both were nice rooms, but i LOVE a good suite! Personnel at the hotel were kind and helpful. Have a cocktail and a brownie in the lobby- you won't regret it!
