I stayed here on a weekly basis back in the 80's. It had been 40 years since I last stayed here, and it was great then. The lobby is still great, but that's it. Our room was horribly musty and dated, dirty towels in the closet, no coffee maker in the room, hair in the bathroom, pillows smelled like dirty feet. The lower level shops are all but gone. I will not stay here again.

A Luxurious Step Back in Time The Palmer House Hotel completely exceeded my expectations. What stood out most was the stunning lobby—truly a work of art with its intricate ceiling murals, gold accents, and opulent chandeliers. It felt like walking into a palace. The service was impeccable—every staff member I interacted with was kind, helpful, and professional. I also loved the hotel’s spa and fitness center, which were both modern and well-maintained. My room was quiet, cozy, and spotless, with plush bedding and beautiful views of the city. The location was ideal—just steps away from Grant Park, theaters, and world-class shopping on State Street. And of course, the history of the hotel adds such a unique and romantic atmosphere. You can feel the legacy in every hallway. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone who appreciates elegance, great service, and a touch of old-school glamour.

Just So-So

Let me start by saying this is a stunning hotel. All of the staff we encountered were super friendly. We had a seamless check in. We arrived to our room and immediately noticed that the room needed some work. The paint on the inside of the bathroom door was peeling off. The wallpaper in the bathroom was separating from the wall in several places. There were mold spots on the ceiling in the bathroom as well. The carpet looked filthy and there were goopy streaks on a piece of the wall art. The washcloth I grabbed to use had a giant brown stain on it. Overall, a pleasant experience but feel as though the room wasn’t taken care of and cleaned properly. For an upscale hotel in the heart of Chicago, I expected a little more.

Birthday Surprise was Egg-cellent!

Our hotel stay was magnificent. Beauty everywhere I looked. Our room was so cosy and comfortable. All our meals were scrumptious! Staff was very helpful with everything. The hotel and room were spotless. One thing to suggest: softer toilet tissue
