"Room 505 - great ocean and pier view; poor wifi"
Stayed for a couple of nights - room very comfortable, enjoyed being on the balcony. Wifi didn't work tho - a disappointment to my husband and me so that's why not a perfect hotel score. Kids were happy with the cable TV. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful when we asked questions or needed something; housekeeping staff was very friendly and helpful too; breakfast (free for guests) at the restaurant was ok - not many choices, our waitress was efficient and very sweet, giving ideas about what to do in the area; the pool area looked very nice and we intended to take a dip but ran out of time; a lot of businesses were closed for the season, but there were still places around that were open; the boardwalk was active during the day.

"Affordable Oceanfront room"
This is a clean, older hotel. The quarters are tight but adequate, (after all, we came for the beach). The beach is right outside your room via the balcony, overlooking the Boardwalk. If you are fortunate enough to be in Virginia Beach during fireworks, (every Sunday night), they are set off, right outside the hotel, off a barge just off shore. I've never had a better view of fireworks. Try to avoid the "Gold Key" Timeshare salesman disguised as a Concierge in the Lobby. It will cost you 1 1/2 to 2 hours of your vacation time if you go to the High Pressure sales pitch. We went, (because it was lousy weather) and almost fell for it. Luckily, we NEVER accept any deal that is "only available today".

"Virginia Beach Virgins"
This was our first visit to VB and we plan to return to it and the Holiday Inn. We specifically chose mid-September in order to avoid the crowds, enjoy the lower temperatures while still having warm water. If you are a family or a couple, I would highly recommend a trip to Virginia Beach before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. The beach is beautiful and immaculate, lifeguards, and low to moderate waves. There is a public "boardwalk" with a separated bike path. Both are well maintained and very clean. One thing I liked in particular was that there were no restaurants or shops directly on the boardwalk. Thus, it did not have the kind of honky tonk feel that one would find in places like Ocean City MD and Myrtle Beach SC. The stores are located on the main street one short block from the beach. Scores of people biked along the paths and there are numerous locations to rent bike of all types at reasonable prices. As with most locations, the restaurants in the hotels are more expensive than others. In fact, there are so many restaurants that it was hard to choose -- we found Yelp very helpful. I encourage diners to try the many restaurants that are located west of the beach along Rt 58, and the Bay Island area north of the beach along Rt 60. BTW, the beach is located only about two miles from NAS Oceana - one of the busiest fighter training facilities on the east coast. You are warned -- those jets are noisy. Locals reminded everyone that "you're hearing the sound of freedom!"

"Decent price, but don't expect much"
I stayed at the Ocean Suites in 2013 with my son and my memory from that visit was better than this one. My bedroom was a vault, tucked away from anything "beachy" and it was right beside the elevator control room. That translates to machine noises throughout the night, which equated to little to no restful sleep, and a bad mood the morning after. The wifi signal was too weak to stream relaxing sounds on my tablet, which was my feeble attempt to drown out the elevator control sounds. The housekeeping staff were a bit bold for my taste; barging into my room after knocking loudly and yelling "housekeeping" and not hearing my response. On my last night, I decided to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room so I could open the sliding glass door and hear the waves crashing. That was more comfortable than the bedroom. The room wasn't terrible, and the staff was nice. I will go back for an inexpensive weekend trip.

"great for the money, off season at least"
Just came back from a 3 night stay.. mind you it was mid October. Front desk person was very nice. We were able to get into our room well before check in time. Room was clean, though i saw what other people had mentioned in their reveiws.. the black bathtubs. However I do believe it is where the finish has rubbed off, and not mold. Hotel is a great location, and be certain to visit the 15th street Raw Bar.. great food, drinks, service.. just 2 short blocks. Only thing I was disappointed in was the fact that housekeeping came only one time,.. so we had dirty towels, and no coffee after the first morning. Room was quite large and liked the seperate living room area. We would stay again.
