Not every film studio can lay claim to its own zip code, but Universal Studios – the owner and centerpiece of 415-acre Universal City in California – has exactly that: zip code 91608. The "city" contains Universal's studio, sets, and back lots; a theme park; and a shopping and entertainment center. There are even a couple of hotels in Universal City, so it's easy to imagine that flights to Los Angeles – which surrounds Universal City – really are transporting you to a distant land of magic and wonder.
Out and About in Universal City
There are three main attractions in Universal City: the studio's theme park, with its thrill rides and shows; the actual film studio, sets, and back lots; and Universal CityWalk. CityWalk houses an eclectic selection of stores, bars, and nightclubs with everything from live music to theater acts, and indoor skydiving. Vacation packages to Universal City will get you to your hotel, where you can ask about perks like early admission to theme park attractions. As long as you're staying in Universal City, you can get around just fine without a rental car: There's a Metro stop right on the edge of the city limits. If the cheap hotels in Universal City are all full, you can access others just a stop or two away on the metro.
Eating and Drinking
Universal City hotels put you within a quick, easy walk of almost 30 restaurants, ranging from fast food chains and pub-style food to Brazilian and Latin cuisine. Of course, there are a few Hollywood-themed restaurants as well. If you're looking for drinks, the Universal City nightlife is all outsized Hollywood glamour, with rocking live music, mechanical bull rides, and drinks as big as your head. Don't forget the all-important VIP membership, too – after all, this is Hollywood.
