Nice Hotel

I had a great time at San Francisco. The hotel was great and the staff was excellent. The only thing I didn't like was dirty people outside the hotel doing nasty stuff outside the hotel entrance.

Under renovation

The room we had was a single with queen bed. It is quite small. Honestly smaller than our master bedroom at home. The thermostat was outdated and made a terrible high pitched whistle when turned on. The mattress was very worn and uncomfortable. The complimentary breakfast was an apple, prepackaged danish and bottle of water in a brown bag. I would not stay again.

Dear D Yes the hotel is under renovation actually our restaurant and lobby are but not the rooms not yet. Our complimentary breakfast is something special that we are doing for our guest during the renovation period. Some rooms are larger than others you can always ask the front desk for a larger room. We do hope that you will reconsider staying with us again, specially since the hotel will go through a total renovation and it will be a brand new property soon.

Not very profesional.

They did not have our room reserved available. So they put us in 2 seperate rooms that were borderline amd in need of repair. Then they moved us to our room the second day without telling us. So the whole thing was very unsettling.

Okay Place For Downtown Action

Pros: I really liked the staff. They seemed relaxed, and they were interested in chatting with guests.
Cons: The carpets!
Location: This is right on the trolley line to pier 39, so the location is ideal.
I stayed here randomly on a road trip. I didn't realize it was in the heart of downtown, so the traffic and parking was very confusing. You pretty much have to pay for hotel valet parking which runs around fifty dollars without a tip. The carpets were a little gross, but the overall ambiance of the hotel made up for it. It had a retro feel, and every room is named after an old movie. There is unique artwork in each room as well. I think if you are staying for a few days, it would be a nice location to "explore" from. The staff was extraordinarily nice. I did pay for a room with a view, but all I had was a view of a wall, so be aware about paying for perks. If I had more days to spare, I may stay again if I wanted to be in the "heart of the action". It was kind of ridiculous for just a one night crash stay (parking, valet, traffic, etc). They do have a little coffee pot set up and good Numi tea for the morning, but there is no breakfast to eat.

Fun hotel close to Union Square

Pros: Great decorations, movie theme, friendly staff
Cons: Can't think of anything...
Location: Near Union Square, Powell Street cable car, movie theatres, restaurants, Westfield shopping center with restaurants, and near BART
This is a great hotel - very quirky in a San Francisco way. Nice rooms, free movie and right near the Powell Street cable car terminus. Lots of great restaurants, shops and movie theatres nearby.

Cute Hotel, Interesting Location

Hotel Bijou is a cute, small boutique hotel that suited our needs for our trip to San Francisco. The rooms were not large, but they were clean and bathroom was fine. The beds were not the most comfortable, but not terrible either. We were there for 3 nights and never able to connect to the WiFi for more than a second, which was frustrating, luckily we did not have much business to do on line at the time. The one thing I wish I have known, although it never became a huge problem, was that hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin District. What that means is that the neighboring blocks, including the block that the hotel is on, is SWARMING with homeless, alcoholics and meth addicts. I am not exaggerating when I say that there could be as many as 30 of these people on any given block, which was a bit alarming and shocking. It was like NYC back in the very early 80's. We had no issues or real encounters with these people, but we did not spend much time in that area. It is a short one block walk to Union Square area and the cable car and bus. Right around the corner is MikkellerBar at 34 Mason St, which serves good food and many different varieties of craft beer. I think it just opened 4 months ago in a large warehouse type space. Also the BEST Vietnamese restaurant, Tin Vietnamese at 937 Howard Street, is just a few blocks away and should NOT be missed. We ate two meals there and thoroughly enjoyed every bite!

If I did bad things... this is where I would do them.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Noisy, run down
Yes, the noise is bad and constant (especially late night). We were on the top floor, the windows were shut and the person I was talking to on my cell phone freaked with all the sirens they heard during our conversation. The windows and walls are very thin. This didn't bother me but it may bother you (walking all day knocked me out at night). For as run down and icky as this hotel is, it is bizarrely clean! The sheets were ripped, the top blanket was full of holes, all sheets were written with permanent marker to identify the hotel and sheet size, the towels were old and threadbare, the beds felt like bad cots... but our room was seriously CLEAN! Bathroom was shiny, no mold and spotless. It was odd. My first thought when I walked in the room was, "Take your child and run!" After I inspected closer though I realized it was just horribly run down but probably cleaner than my house. Still, it is nowhere I'd stay again. Quick Pros: - Clean - Amazing location ( 1 1/2 blocks to Nordstrom mall, trolley, big shopping) - Great Price Quick Cons: - Really run down, holes in linens, etc. - Internet, while free, was not reliable - Unfriendly staff. - If you turn the wrong way on Eddy Street you can see a man pooping in his bucket and an "adult" all male show. - Thin windows and walls - Staff did not respect my "Do not disturb" and came in constantly.

basic ammenities...good value for the cot

very basic hotel, no frills. good value for the money. Staff was nice and helpful. Room was clean and quiet. Bed was not the greatest but did the job. Location was great but if you go one block in the wrong direction you get into a questionable neighborhood. I would stay here again.
