Property was great, well staffed and clean. It was a relief to feel safe within the hotel. The Gaslamp District/streets have become overwhelmed with transients. Naked individuals arguing with themselves, human feces on the sidewalks, stepping around people sleeping on the sidewalks; it was very uncomfortable. Business owners need to address this with the city.

Clean, Good Location, but Small and Average Overal

The rooms were very clean but extremely small, with no drawers or storage beyond a few hooks. The bathroom looked trendy but had square toilet seats, which weren’t very comfortable. We had a small hiccup at check-in—while we didn’t expect the room before the official 4 PM time, the hotel’s system asked for our arrival time and promised a text when the room was ready. We never received one until after we’d already checked in, which made the offer feel unnecessary. That said, staff were friendly and stored our bags, which we appreciated. The location in the Gaslamp Quarter is excellent and makes it easy to get around, though city-view rooms do come with some road noise (which we expected). There’s a bar downstairs, but we found the drinks overly sweet. Overall, for the price, the hotel felt average—clean and in a great spot, but with small rooms and limited amenities, and there are nearby options we’ve enjoyed more.

I loved this cute little hotel, very conveniently located walking distance to Petco park in Gaslamp area. It’s a great vibe, playful themed with games, I love how we check in at the bar and get a complimentary drink. The room was clean, very modern and the deposit for incidentals was $20 per night, wow! The valet service was a bit slow, but the attendant was so nice and apologetic. I loved my stay at the Moxy, I’ll definitely be back. I’ll also recommend it to family & friends.

I had a very disappointing experience at the Moxy Hotel in the Gaslamp District, San Diego. On my first night, the toilet wouldn’t stop flushing after being used. I managed to get some rest despite the noise, and the next morning I asked for it to be repaired. I was told “engineering” would handle it while I was out for the day. When I returned late that evening, the toilet was still not fixed, and no one at the front desk answered the phone. I endured another sleepless night because of the constant noise. The following morning, I requested a refund for one night from the manager, Luis. At first, he admitted he would normally agree but claimed he couldn’t process it since I had booked through Expedia. Expedia, however, confirmed that they would issue the refund if the hotel approved it. When I explained this to another receptionist (Leon), I was told that Luis had no intention of authorizing it. Instead, Luis repeatedly offered Marriott points, which I declined, as I do not use points to book. Overall, the lack of responsiveness, unaddressed maintenance issues, and refusal to provide fair compensation made this a very negative stay.
