Hillcrest/Mission Hills is an upscale neighborhood in San Diego, California, USA. It is located on hills just south of the San Diego River valley and north of downtown San Diego, overlooking Old Town, Balboa Park, Downtown San Diego, and San Diego Bay. Close to all the major attractions including Petco Park, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, Convention Center, Seaport Village and more.

Hillcrest is known for being centrally located to great restaurants, cafés, bars, clubs, trendy stores and many other locally owned business. The home is within walking distance to two major grocery stores as well.

The home is centrally located to get to anywhere in San Diego. The Coaster and Amtrak trains are within five miles, the airport is a short Uber/LYFT drive away, there are public bikes and scooters to rent around the neighborhood and of course there is the bus line as well. Because of the location and activities in this central location, many guests don't need a vehicle at all. As mentioned above, one parking permit will be provided upon check in.

Parking is out front and one permit will be provided upon check in. Please make sure you don't park in the metered spots as you can get a ticket! Typically, if nothing is available immediately in front of the home, parking can be found further down on the street and worse case scenario, the next street over. Weekends are the worst and during mid-week, there are usually plenty of spots.

The home is perfect for a quiet family vacation. We do not host guests to have parties.
Some fun games can be located in the dining room buffet. TV and fan remotes are located in drawers near the location of the TV. Fireplace is gas and there is a key required to turn it on along with a lighter. Please keep key and lighters away from children. Appliances are easy to use. Please leave pocket doors from dining to living room open as they tend to get stuck sometimes if not closed properly.

Cute and close to everything but you need to know…

The location and pictures are as described. Cute home and we felt safe. We did have some hiccups along the way but the place was nice We were able to walk to restaurants, grocery stores and a pharmacy within a block. It was in a short driving distance from all the different tourist location we wanted to go to. The place was very clean. A major issues was the parking. It was extremely stressful every night coming back and fighting to find a parking spot even with the two parking passes they were able to get us. Most nights one of not both cars had to park a block or two away. We came with a family of 7 and to be clear to anyone staying it is only for 6 people unless you have small children sleeping in your beds. We realized this after we booked so we had one person on the floor which wasn’t great but we made it work. There were not enough wash clothes for everyone so for the first two days we were washing towels each night and sharing. We did end up contacting the host and they did respond (for the first time in a while) and had someone bring them. Communication with the host was terrible. Messages and questions were sent multiple times to the host and no response was given till we repeatedly messaged. There was also a women who paced the house every night around 3:30 smoking and fighting with her boyfriend. People also came in through the front gate to get to house in back in the middle of the night and during the day waking the dogs and house every night.

Great house

The house is very spacious. The beds were so comfortable and everything was clean. It's an accessible neighborhood and easy to walk around at night. The street is very quiet, albeit lots of traffic around. Parking was hit or miss, but the hosts generously provide you with a parking placard for overnight if you can find a spot. Also we travelled with our dog, and there is a fenced in front yard, which is a bonus if you are travelling with a young child or pet. Overall, we were glad that we stayed there and would rent again.

Responsive hosts

Beautiful, clean craftsman home - the listing pictures accurately represent the space. We ran into a problem a few days into our stay - the AC broke down. Chris and Michelle were quick to respond and get a technician dispatched. The attention was very much appreciated.

Great location that's close to most attractions

The place was neat and well maintained. The description and photos were accurate . There was a minor issue with the dryer not working, but apart from that everything was fine . Also getting a parking spot close to the house might be lil difficult.

Cozy spot in Mission Hills

We were lucky to stay at the house here and loved everything about it. The craftsman home really feels cozy and we really enjoyed being able to sip coffee on the front porch watching the folks walk by. Plenty of space in the living and dining room, bedrooms were great for our family. Master bath was gorgeous, although we weren't able to take advantage of the soaking tub, but now I want one for my home. Location is great. Plenty of places to eat and visit in walking distance, plus it is centrally located so getting to public transit or the freeways is a breeze. The manager was very attentive and friendly. The kind of person you'd like to have a drink with and chew the fat with for a while. If you're looking for a cozy place to enjoy while you're exploring San Diego, or just having a staycation, this is an amazing spot.

Perfect home away from home

Very nice house with updated kitchen and bathrooms. The host was very accommodating and the house was equipped with everything we needed and was very comfortable. The location was perfect for our visit and only required a walk or short drive to every place we wanted to go. We would be happy to stay there again.
