Great Historic Hotel in Downtown Phoenix!

Pros: Location-Location and History-History!!
Cons: I really can't think of anything..................
Location: If you Googled the hotel's location you would see how close to sports arenas, concert halls and fabulous food would be a mere a block or two away!
Who would have thought that there would be such a cool historic hotel in downtown Phoenix! The hotel still has the elegant feel of its era with a very classy lobby. The rooms are nice and substantial., nothing fancy. But the location to everything on the center of Phoenix is really incredible and only one block from the light rail!! I will definitely go back to the San Carlos Hotel..................Thank you for a charming weekend!

Happy to hear you liked the location of the building, where everything important downtown is within a 10 minute walk! The light-rail is so convenient!

Great location for downtown activities

Went to a concert at the Talking Stick Resort Arena and it was ideal walking distance. Staff are great, vintage hotel for those who are into the historical scene.

Noisy and a bit creepy

I booked this room and found out later it was haunted. I would have liked to have cancelled but no refundable. In the end no problems there. It was fine. However very noisy. People in halls loud late. People in next room very loud until 4am.

Our hotel is actually not haunted. It's the history of the hotel. We are sorry that you're stay was not as quiet. Thank you, Angela

Run Down Scary Hotel

Pros: When I left
Cons: everything
Run, down, scary hotel, I was scared for my life couldn't sleep on the rock hard bed. My keys wouldn't work after I left the room, their key machine broke so I had to wait while they fixed it. Very small, very old scary elevator. Bathroom so small, toilet stopped up, sink stopped up. Freezing room, no thermostat, old radiator in the room, I slept in my coat for warmth. When I went to leave the first night a young man said I will be owing $50 just to cancel even though I was already paid in full. And when I went to leave the next day because I felt in danger, the women in front of me was checking out for the same reasons a day early, I witnessed a fight she had with the front desk.

A Disappointing Experience

Pros: Great desk staff!
Location: Located in downtown Phoenix so access to restaurants and sporting events is within walking distance.
I checked into the San Carlos having heard it was an old and charming downtown hotel. Well charm only goes so far. I am not too picky, but I do have expectations. The public spaces were nice, and the elevator did have some dated charm, but the room was a disappointment. The room was old and did not look refurbished as claimed. The door to the hallway was so ill fitted that at night the light coming in was useful as a nightlight. Of course this also let the outside noises in which led to not much sleep since the hotel pool was located on the same floor and people were noisily going to the pool after 11pm. The hotel ice machine was also located on the same floor and I could hear the ice falling and people filling up on ice all night. The biggest disappointment was the bathroom. It was clean but very, very small. It could not have been more than 30 inches wide. Taking a shower was a tight fit and the wash basin was very low for a average sized person. The front desk staff were very nice and friendly and efficient. But I cannot give this a good review on the basis of the room.

Strange Place...

Pros: - Loved the history. - Great location. - Spacious workout area. - Nice rooftop pool.
Cons: - Stuffy central air that can be controlled individually. This made it really difficult to sleep. - Shower drainage. - Pillows. - Smell.
Location: Loved the location, great for concerts, etc. Awesome deluxe burger joint called, "The Counter" is around the block. Public transportation is there.
The Bad: - Stuffy central air that can be controlled individually. This made it really difficult to sleep. - Shower wouldn't drain, leaving you to shower in the standing sudsy/dirty water in the tub. - Walls are "paper thin," yes you can hear everything your neighbor's do and say and they can hear you. - Pillows were terrible, as if they were designed to keep you up and give you neck aches the following day. - Staff seemed like they were disinterested and there only to collect a paycheck and not really interested in helping guests. - Super cheesy decor in parts of the hotel. You have to see it for yourself. The Good: - Loved the history. - Great location. - Spacious workout area. - Nice rooftop pool. Walk-Away-Impression: - This place reminded me of the movie Ghost Busters. Although I wouldn't recommend it, I can actually say I enjoyed the stay; there's something cool about old places like that and I'm glad I stayed...just probably won't go back.

Character has a price

Loved the hotel, neighborhood, personality, staff, and classic personality of an old dame hotel. But it meant some inconveniences like thin walls and a narrow bathroom that I had to leave to towel off after the shower. Great Irish pub next door, great location, extremely helpful and friendly staff.

Pros: Not much
Cons: Update
Location: Walking distance to ASU downtown campus, convention center, comedy club, civic center.
First night was awful. Small bed, room right next to the 100 year old very noisy elevator, paper thin walls so could hear personal conversations. They gave us a different room for the duration which was a bit quieter but could still hear the people in the next room, the street noise. The water fluctuated so much you were afraid you might be scalded.

Historic hotel with all the modern conveniences.

A terrific period hotel with lots of character. Inevitably, interior is a little aged, but very fresh, comfortable beds and linens. WiFi works perfectly throughout. Staff are helpful and welcoming. Location for downtown could not be better. Everything seems to be within 2 or 3 short blocks. I would take this over a generic "modern" hotel any time. Only down side is that it does not have its own food service. But you only have to go a few feet out the door for lots of options.

Great Dowtown PHX hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Hotel san carlos is a great old hotel in downtown Phoenix. The armosphere alone is worth the money. it's located nearby some great restaurants and more importantly, walking distance to the ballpark!
