The property was old and it looked like the Radisson just fixed up the outside. Our window view was of the roof of the drive through in front! Really! We could not see any sky unless we went to the far right corner of the window. The carpets were DISGUSTING!!! The stairs going up were so stained from YEARS of use. The carpet in the room was so gross and old like from the 70s. The sheets were clean and the bathroom was fine. The clerk ran up 2 times to "check the room and make sure it's ready" but it was 7pm and there were only 4 cars in the parking lot! No way they were full!!! Each time we opened the door we were HIT with a chemical smell that I believe he flung around to cover some smell. It was still on our things when we got home. I didn't ask for another room because I truly believe this was the best they had. The walls were old stucco. This has absolutely ruined the Radisson name for me. I am 100% sure this is a franchise hotel and I promise I will NEVER stay there again!!!! DON'T!

Break fast choice left much to be desired my significant other and I are not pork eaters and there was no selection of meat other than that. Fresh fruit would have been nice.

Country Inn & Suites - Newport News, VA

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Shopping, eating, etc.
I think this hotel houses the homeless/displaced population. There was a lot of kids running and making noise in the hallways. This was about 12:15 a.m. Trash in the elevator - candy wrappers, etc. A 24ft pickup truck parked on the premises. The truck took up 5 parking spaces , which left no spaces for other hotel guests. I communicated this to the front desk. I was informed that they are aware of the situation but the person did not put the info down on the check in sheet and that I should park in the circle. The circle is where you drive up, check n at the front of the hotel. Another guest was behind me & addressed the issue with the staff yo no avail. They should of have it towed. It was a huge inconvenience. I observed an individual going to a too with a huge sheet cake. She said they are ha I got a birthday party. This was on the floor I was on. The 3rd floor Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. I got up and immediately. He Jed out. I did not d even have the free breakfast

Just OK

For a one night stay in Newport News, this place provided the minimum requirements. The room was clean, the staff was pleasant, the area appeared to be safe. So why am I rating this hotel just ok? Once we checked into the room, the remote to the TV did not work. No problem, just call the front desk and we can get that fixed, right? Took a couple of minutes to figure out why I couldn't call the front desk. Someone had disconnected the phone cord from the base. Not completely, just enough so it wasn't connected. Finally called the front desk. No problem, let us find another remote and send it up to the room. Never heard from them again. No problem, we can get up and change the channels manually, just ok. That night (a Friday night) there was a continuous parade of overly loud guests walking the halls. Maybe they didn't realize how loud they were but it sounded like they were in the room. This went on about every hour until past 2 AM. The free breakfast was less than you would expect. The waffle mix was of some dry bland variety. The other offers were powdered eggs, grits/biscuits, or cereal. We choose to check out of the hotel and go have a decent breakfast at the Warwick Restaurant which was very good and the service excellent. So overall, this hotel offered a clean bed but sleep was very intermittent due to the other guests or visitors that traveled through the halls.

Friendly staff - Nice rooms

Pros: We like the staff and location of the hotel
Cons: The rooms and hallways need to be vacuumed at least every other day. If our room was vacuumed, then the hotel needs to buy different vacuum cleaners.
Location: This hotel is near several shopping areas and main highways.
The hotel is undergoing some renovations which are welcome and in no way interfered with our stay. The hotel staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful and the bed was comfortable enough. The breakfast was nice and there was plenty of it. The only complaint which kept me from giving this hotel five stars was the room and hallways were not vacuumed during our stay. There was some dirt on the carpet and bathroom that did not move during our stay but, due to the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, we chose to overlook it. Considering everything else, and comparing it to other hotels we have stayed at, we would stay here again.

Cons: Customer service, better beds and get rid of the people sitting out front smoking pot
Hotel was under renovation but we were not informed on website or when we checked in. One lady working front desk said the manager didn't want them to tell the guest they were renovating. We were on the 3rd floor and only ones on that floor because they were renovating all the rooms. We were woken up to banging on the walls early in they morning. We could smell what we think was marijuana and cigarettes in the elevator from the people that were out front smoking it and then coming inside. Another lady that worked the front desk said they had just fired someone for smoking pot on the job out front of the lobby. The beds were hard as a rock and housekeeping didn't clean up our room while we were there. They just made bed and gave us some towels. We told the people behind the front desk and were basically led to believe they really didn't care. Only one girl was really helpful and offered us a discount but it was never given to us because the front desk manger wasn't there and he hardly speaks English. He was supposed to call me but never heard a word from him. I do not recommend this place to anyone!
