Cons: Bring back coffee in the room -- if it is a matter of cost, then charge for it along with the $7 potato chips. One of the lamps in the room was broken
At one point, I was using internet in the lobby (at 2am) and was told by two different people that I would have to leave so staff could clean -- because they don't want to clean around guests. I've never been to a hotel that closes the lobby, regardless of time of day or night.

Good location but way too noisy

The hotel has a club open on the lobby level and the music was pounding until well past midnight. My room was 4 floors above it and I couldn't sleep. The room was expensive even for NY standards but I felt like I was staying in a motel for spring break. Extremely dissapointing. I would never stay there again. Staff was unapologetic as well.

Nice hotel very close to the World Trade Center

Pros: Its location
Cons: nothing
Location: The World Trade Center, you arrive before the crowds
Centrally located , great staff, and very clean. Room was a little small, but, most rooms in NYC are. Great deal on Travelocity.

Nice but needs some repairs

Cons: The bathroom repairs and mild mold in the shower
Location: Freedom Tower and Starbucks
The room had a very nice view and the decor was very updated and modern, really liked that. The bathroom toilet paper holder had no stopper and kept coming off the rack onto the floor. The towel rack was broken but it still worked, the other towel for the hand towels was loose also. Other than that a pleasant experience.

comedy of errors

Pros: The hotel is designed beautifully, its a cool space-age design, its comfortable, and great views of the WTC.
Cons: the staff needs to talk to one onanother! the lefthand doesn't know what the right is doing
Location: World Trade Center
No hot water, (or even warm) on the day I arrived. They forgot to deliver my roomservice breakfast order. They didn't follow though on promised goods to make up for their shortcomings. They put not one but two wrong number calls through to my room at 3:30am. And after they gave me a late checkout to make up for the lost sleep from the calls, they called up to the room to find out when I planned on checking out, rushing me to be out 2 hours earlier than the late checkout. Management did seem nice and seemed to want to make things right, however, it seems no one talks with eachother so no one know what needs to be done or If anyone followed through. Two managers spoke with me while I was still checked in. Both were embarrassed by what had happened but neither followed up as they said they would. I received a concerned email from the Director of rooms, Temara but its been 72 hours since I responded and the W hotel has failed to respond again.

Would recommend

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet
I very much enjoyed my stay over the weekend at the Downtown W. The bar on the 5th floor was a nice touch and my friends who visited me on Saturday night hangout at the bar, took picture on the balcony with the Freedom Tower in in the back-drop and had a few drinks. There were a good few options for meals in the area also. The staff was very pleasant and doormen helpful in guiding me to the subway station and advising the cab driver where to drop me. The food/staff at BLT were also fabulous. MY only complaint is the size of the room. I am certainly not use to that size room. I asked if I could upgrade when I checked in and was told that I could not because the suites are "reserved for special guest". I thought that was highly odd!!! However, I would consider staying there again for sure just for the location and service.

Noisy and disappointing.

Pros: bliss toiletries
Cons: Noisy, bad service, noise noise noise
First of all, be warned that this hotel sits next to (like, right next to) Ground Zero and the construction is nearly constant--nights, weekends, early mornings. And when that noise finally lets up for a few hours, you have the hotel's 5th floor bar/nightclub to contend with. I was on the 9th floor and the thumping dance music kept me awake until after 2am. Then the construction had me (and my fellow co-worker 2 rooms way) awake again at 7am. Staff was mostly aloof, disinterested. Room was OK, bed was confortable but everything is already showing signs of age and wear and lack of care. Atmosphere of the hotel overall is weird and just trying too hard to be cool. Funny thing is, this was probably the most ghetto W I've stayed at, and not cool at all. Certainly not worth the 4-star price. Very disappointing.

I had a deal on this hotel because it is in downtown Manhatten (no nightlife) and I stayed over the holidays (a good $15-$20 cab ride to midtown).

Pros: great bed and nice service
Cons: No free Internet
My friends live around the corner from this hotel, which is why I chose it for the holidays. The price was much more affordable than it usually is. Room was nice, comfortable...bed was terrific with wonderful bedding. Bathroom was just okay. Service was very good, but warning, the check-in is on the 5th floor and the entrance is BLACK....as in no lights...just walk directly forward from the entrance to the elevators and press the button and go to floor 5. Be careful when it's wet out, as the floors are very shiney and look slippery. Wifi is extra (a/b $15 a day) and the desk chair is back breaking uncomfortable. I called the desk for a flat backed chair and was immediately given a dining room chair, which was marginally better. The service folks really are great...
