Soothing spot in the middle of everything

Pros: The beds were fantastic. Firm mattresses with a soft top. Breakfast was best I've ever had in a hotel.
Cons: Price had a hidden facility fee. Maybe you could negotiate around that by knowing that it's there.
Location: Location is just a few blocks from Times Square -- walking distance from many New York attractions. We were there for Yoga on the Solstice. Fabulous.
This hotel was a random choice among many. They advertised a discounted rate, but by the time they add all the taxes and an unnecessary facility fee, it was no bargain. However, there were many perks. They had a really abundant buffet breakfast at no charge. Beautiful fresh fruit, eggs in various styles, bagels, toast, all forms of coffee. Fresh and delicious. The beds in our room were incredibly comfortable. The decor was soothing. I don't like white rooms much and I'm not a fan of modern design in general. But the color choices were comforting somehow. Slept like a baby.

Awesome!

Pros: Everything! Reasonable priced restaurant and a Grab and Go for coffee and sandwiches.
Cons: I would have like a fan in the bathroom.
Location: Excellent location. You can walk to Broadway theatres and TKTS. Amy's Bread and Kiehl's are just around the corner on 9th Avenue.
We loved everything about this new hotel. Location is excellent between 8th and 9th Avenues on 46th St.. Front desk personnel courteous and helpful. Five elevators. We were on the 24th floor with view of the Hudson River. We had lunch in the restaurant (very reasonable specials from 12-3), Grab and Go has coffee and smoothies and a variety of sandwiches and wraps. We walked to TKTS and Broadway shows. Many very good restaurants nearby. We will definitely return.

Not a good experience

Pros: Location.
Cons: Public relations.
Location: Close to theaters and other venues.
Not everything that was promised was true. They said there would be water included in the rooms, there was none. The fire alarm went off at about 4:30 PM and even though they said the issue was resolved, they did not start the elevators functioning for at least half an hour afterwards, leaving me to go down 27 flights of stairs because I had to make it to a meeting by 5:30. I am 66 years old and this left me unable to walk properly for three days, had to miss several activities I had planned and paid for because my knees were shot. When I asked at the front desk if they could comp me for some of the loss, they said no. There was not even an apology for the elevators not working for so long. I will not go back to this hotel or recommend it to my friends.

Avoid due to persistent service problems

Pros: Location.
Cons: Staff training, breakfast room disaster, broken alarm system, elevators, phones in elevator lobbies, better food in restaurant, etc, etc.
Location: Time Square, the only redeeming quality of this hotel.
The "hard product" is OK: good location, rooms clean, but small and lacking basic amenities, like coffee-making facilities or a clock-radio. Bathrooms are very small (no tub). However, the "soft product" (the part under the control of the day-to-day management) at this hotel is absolutely awful. On arrival, it took 30 mins to check us in, with much hemming and hawing. On the first morning, we arrived at the breakfast room to find a line of 75+ guests snaking into the basement -- all waiting for breakfast. Eggs were way too salty and the bagels were awful (a sin in NYC!) On the second morning we went to the elevators, and they didn't work -- the call button simply went out after being pushed. We tried again and again, but gave up after 10+ minutes and walked down the fire stairs to the lobby, where a manager told us that they were running them on manual, and would have gotten to us "eventually" if we had called on the phone! There is no phone in the elevator lobby on each floor. At 2am on the second night/third morning we were awoken by a fire alarm -- a piercing shriek that proceeded to go off for 20+ mins, each a "false alarm". If you read the other reviews, our experience is clearly not a new one, these things happen often. The management of this hotel clearly has no idea what they are doing, and in my experience it would be a mistake to stay here. There are plenty of less expensive hotels around Times Square that will deliver a better experience.

Overnight to see Sunset Blvd. with Glenn Close

Pros: Modern and stylish hotel in the heart of the theater district. Very hip and ecology minded design with European flair.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Theater, dining, sightseeing, people watching.
Great location to the theaters. 5 minute walk to Broadway.

Perfect Location

Stayed at the RIU for 4 days and I was very impressed with everything about it. The location is perfect. You are close to Time Square, Broadway, and a short walk to Fifth Avenue. The rooms are a little undersized but in New York what do you expect. The staff was gracious and friendly and the hotel was in excellent condition. The breakfast left a little to be desired but other than that the experience was great.

Very nice hotel conveniently located

Pros: Very good choice for short stay right in heart of the city.
Location: Great location. It's in Times Square so it's near theaters, plenty of eateries, shopping and close to all transportation.
Wasn't sure what to expect when I booked it but was pleasantly surprised. The lobby was very nice and the room though small was tastefully done and immaculate. The reception staff was very helpful in accommodating me with a late check out. I was there during the recent snowstorm and used the Grab n Go cafe. It had a good selection pastries, beverages and sandwiches and the staff was super nice. Overall great experience. Would stay there again and recommend to friends.
