One star. Poor review all around.

One of the worst hotels I have ever booked on Travelocity. Our in-room mini fridge was broken when we arrived and leaked water all over the rug...the room is only approx. 500sq feet so it was hard to avoid the wet carpet. Took 5 hours to get a replacement fridge during which my 1 year old son's milk had to be thrown out. Was quite an effort to even get the staff to respond or help us get us that replacement. Room was dirty and missing towels.

Good stay

Pros: Staff is always great. Location - close to Penn Station if coming by train and subway stops nearby
Location: Times Square area easy walk. Skylight diner great for breakfast. Tick Tock Diner nearby good also. 2 Bros Pizza - 2 slices and soda 3$ great deal
I have stayed at this Double Tree a couple of times over the last few years and it has been a great stay. The staff from concierge to front desk to maintenance to housekeeping are Excellent. Very friendly, helpful and attentive. This time we had a small problem with the shower door and it was taken care of right away and with a friendly attitude. At check in we did not have any washcloths and no bar of soap for the shower, only one on the sink. Requested those and additional towel and received right away. The bedspread seemed to be a little dirty on the edges. Not sure if needed cleaned, or just dull from over time being white. After the first room cleaning, we did not have a shower mat, so had to request. I believe the maid was new is the reason. Keep in mind that it takes a while to go up and down the elevators. Only two elevators for 20 something floors it is going to happen. So just be aware to leave yourself extra time when coming and going if you need to wait.

Close to Times Square but older...

Excellent staff and friendly faces. Facilities were run down, older property. Only one working elevator. Cigarette burns on sheets. Air conditioner malfunctioned and did not cool room at all. Small bugs in bathroom. Overall not terrible but certainly not recommended if you are expecting or accustomed to other Doubletree properties.

Name of hotel is misleading

The hotel is named Doubletree Hotel by Hilton New York Times Square South but it is nowhere near Times Square!!!!!!!!! This was my kids first time in NY and wanted them to get that NY experience but it was about 10-11 block walk to Times Square and not in a good neighborhood!! Very disappointed!!

Stay away from this hotel

I checked out early this morning about 6am Monday June 6 from DoubleTree by Hilton. The lady at the reception gave me a quote $75 including everything for a SUV to LGA AIRPORT. I did double check with her whether the price $75 includes everything and she confirmed the flat rate. Then I checked with Uber SUV and it was $85. Then i went ahead with the taxi because it was cheaper. And guess what? The driver charged me $95 at the airport. Why should i pay $95 meanwhile i can get it for $85 from uber SUV. Because i was late for the flight so i had no choice but to accept it. I gave her my amex card. Guess what? She tried to charge me more than $110, saying that i have to pay tax for credit card, the $95 is cash only. What the hell on earth is going on? I refused and was about to call the police then she changed her mind and charged $95. Terrible service. The name of driver is Mary Cornier.

Great For Sleep and Shower

Pros: THE STAFF!!!!!
Cons: Double check the equipment in the room to ensure things are in working order.
Location: Not so close to Times Square that you can't rest, but not so far away that you can't walk to your destination--either a place or a subway ride!
We were in NYC for a week and needed a space for sleep and a shower, as we were out doing things. This hotel is close to Times Square and subway stops to easily get you to other places. The staff was VERY helpful and friendly, especially Thomas (afternoons/evenings). He recommended restaurants that were local and not 'touristy'--exactly what we look for when we travel! The only concern we had about the room was that the heater was not functioning well. On our final night, it actually started blowing steam after we had gone to bed. Thomas was fantastic in helping us move to another room, where we resumed our slumbers. The staff wants their guests to be comfortable and secure. Their smiles and exchanges with guests are genuine!

alright

Pros: clean rooms, several very nice front desk people
Cons: At least tell people there is construction going on so they can make a decision based on that. Maybe trash could be taken out at a different time .
Location: Very close to times square and madison square garden.
No blanket or comforter the first night. Had to ask twice the next day to finally get one. Maids with large rolling leaking trash bins on the same elevator as guest, left runny garbage on the elevator floor. Woken up early by loud hammering, major construction across street. Very loud at 6 am.

Nice hotel; great front desk/bellman staf

Pros: Location, room and bed, front desk and bell staff were excellent; AND of course the hot cookies --
Cons: room service, hot water for showers in some rooms; I constantly got splattered at the small sink -- not quite sure what would help that.
Location: Thai Connection - 36th and 9th-awesome. Convenient to Kinkos & Staples for business stuff, nail salon, Duane Read on 7th, Dunkin donuts, Macy's..
The location was very convenient to my meeting and to stores/businesses/restaurants I need on 7th and 9th Aves. Easy to get cabs. Lots of construction around and that was a bit of inconvenience and hopefully the uplifts will be great for the area. Food was ok and my colleague was not happy with the quality and the pricing; room service could be improved. She said oatmeal was watery and cold, for example and that she could not get hot water in her shower on the first day. My shower was great.

Best part is the location

Pros: Location and friendly staff. Free paper
Cons: See comment above. There are so many things lacking.
This didn't measure up to a 4+ star hotel. Perhaps a 3 star hotel. The staff was great and very friendly. The room was tiny - even by New York standards. No drawers to place clothing items (none - except for drawer in night stand). Very little counter space. The seating space (a padded bench) had to be used to place suitcases because they had no suitcase stand (probably b/c there is no room for a suitcase stand). So even though they show a sitting area in the photos, it is basically not available for use unless you want to place your suitcase on the floor in front of night stand and then be forced to step over it each time you get up at night. No coffee maker other than a pot to make instant coffee (yuk!). Coffee was offered in the morning near the reception area. However, it was never hot and they didn't have a microwave. Even when the guests finished a carafe and the staff brought out more coffee, it still was not hot. They must brew the coffee hours before it actually gets served. They ran out of decaf and did not replenish even after my request.
