The Voco is in a great location but the area around it is somewhat questionable. We didn't feel safe at times and found it quite a dingy and dirty place. When we had looked at reviews, it didn't give this impression.
The staff were outstanding on reception, could not fault their attentiveness and super kind and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble to help us. Proper American customer service at its best.
The hotel itself is on par with a UK Travelodge/premier inn. It tries to say it's high quality but it's a hotel that has been revamped but it's not great. The reception area is welcoming but busy, popcorn was all over the floor from the machine, the lifts are quite dated and dirty, they are in desperate need of overhauling. The corridors to rooms are dark and dated, the carpets are grubby.
The rooms - we had two doubles squeezed in a room for 1 double. With a bed pushed up against a heater, we didn't use the heater for fear of a fire. The shower leaked, the bathroom had mold and wasn't cleaned very well. There is no wardrobe space, so we had to live out of cases. There's actually no space to store anything, so a double room for 4 people would be incredibly cramped.
Housekeeping was supposed to come everyday. They came once to clean in a 4 day stay and once to change towels because we had to keep asking for room supplies. Beds not made and sheets not changed in that time. Avoid food here, much better places.
