Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach

175 Paoakalani Ave, Honolulu - Map
"Good location, a few not so good things"
This hotel is a few blocks from the beach; the partial or ocean view rooms are (in my opinion) not worth the extra money, as you have several enormous and tall hotels in front of you, and there are only portions of the ocean that you can see. Even without the hotels in front you would not see the beach as it is too far. We were on the 16th floor; there are 19 floors; maybe up higher the views would be better, if you could guarantee a high floor that would be ok. Breakfast is nice and extensive. Our room had an A/C that only cooled the room to 68 degrees, no matter what. We had them look at it, but it did not improve. The elevators (only 2) are very slow, and in the morning we waited on average 7 minutes for it to arrive. If you don't care about an ocean view from your room I suggest staying on a lower floor so you can walk down to breakfast (on 3rd floor) or the lobby. There is a cute bar off the lobby with a couple of TVs. It's very laid back and the menu is simple, but it's a nice place to meet up with friends before you go out. Happy hour wine was only $5 a glass. One difference in the king room with no view and the partial view room with two queens is that the partial view room was at least 50% larger. If you come as a couple and get the "street view" room with a king bed, it won't be a very large room, and there is only a shower, not a shower over a tub. If we go again, I will choose a lower level non view room with two queens. No self parking, only valet.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa

2424 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu - Map
"Spring Vacation"
We spent a week at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki. We chose it specifically because we wanted a variety of activities and it's centralized location, knowing it was more touristy than other Hawaiian locations. Specifically for the hotel: The lobby and throughout a lot the public space was under renovation. You have scaffolding and crew working all day and parts of the evening. From the looks of things, once they are complete, the hotel will look pretty nice. It was just a bit annoying to have to walk around the construction to avoid breathing in the spackling dust. The other negative was the ability to go from floor to floor. (ie. hotel room on the normal floors,Laundry room on 4th floor, Pool on 3rd floor, Lobby on 2nd floor and take an escalator from Lobby to street level). The elevators are very packed and There are escalators to go between street up to 3rd floor, but they were no operational due to renovations. This made waiting for the elevators to go one floor very annoying.
