Lumley Castle Hotel
"I (we) have never stayed in a castle before so randomly coming across thought why not as it was on par with staying in Durham. We stayed in the main castle rather than the wing rooms. Felt appropriately castle like. Clean. High quality establishment. Uber from the local train station (one stop from Durham) cost 5 pounds. Back to Durham in the morning from there was about 16 or so. We ate evening meal at the bar (had fish&chips, small portion fairly good quality) and a few drinks that were slightly higher priced than typical but not extortionate). We paid for breakfast that has a continental style pick n mix as a starter and a main ordered from menu, it was fairly high quality- not fantastic, but good. All staff were very pleasant individuals. The grounds and walking around and about the place was lovely. No cell reception at all in our bedroom (castle/thick stone walls) which I liked, internet is provided, a bit slow but not too bad). Room was a bit hot and the radiator didn’t fully turn off despite the valve being closed. Overall we very much enjoyed our 1 night stay. It was a treat for us and money well spent. I may not stay here again as it is a bit of a novelty really, but would recommend. The bed was a double, little small and so-so comfortable. Feeling less ‘special’ in the bedroom contrasted with the outside the bedroom vibe, take note owners.. Overall, very satisfied. Thank-you."
