Very nice hotel. Always extremely clean. On beach

Pros: The staff is fabulous. The location is great. The beach is beautiful.
Cons: The reservation system for the nicer two restaurants is terrible. You should not have to arrange your day around standing in line mid-day every day.
Location: The golf a mile away is first class. There are no fish at the hotel for snorkeling. View, beach and swimming are great.
The staff is fantastic. Friendly, accommodating, helpful in every way possible. Our refrigerator stopped working and was fixed within two hours. We had trouble with our shuttle back to the airport and they stepped in and handled it. The beach is pristine white sand and beautifully maintained. And just a few steps from the doors! We really enjoyed our stay. I can't say enough about the staff. Wonderful people. A few cons: We booked the luxury suite and never received the fruit basket. Asked twice, then let it go because there is always a huge assortment of fruit at the buffet. Had to ask for the robe and slippers. The air conditioning wasn't great and had been turned off twice when the room was being cleaned. (85 degrees outside with high humidity) Our only disappointment was the restaurant availability. We golfed every day so we could not go stand in line from 11:30 to 1:00 to make reservations for either of the two nice restaurants. We ended up eating at the buffet (which was decent to very good) every meal except one. I feel we did not get our money's worth from the two nice restaurants. Even the front desk could not help. Just a terrible system for making restaurant reservations.

Buyer beware

Location: This property is a few miles from downtown. No shops or good snorkeling places within walking distance.
There is only one bad beach on the entire island. This resort has it. They are the northern most resort and have no barrier wall to break the seaweed and murky waters. We completely wasted our all inclusive benifits because we were never there. You won't swim or snorkel here... Just be aware of that. That being said, the property is clean (except for the massive amounts of seaweed on the beach). The service was almost non-existent. The food was decent, but there aren't as many choices as the site makes it seem. You have one or two bars open at different times. There is a buffet for breakfast and one for lunch, and a snack bar for in-between. For dinner there are two options, a buffet and a reservation dinner. We were somewhat underwhelmed with the reservation dinner. But the buffet is pretty good, with a different theme each night. I was pleased that it was indoors, with a patio option complete with bird netting to keep out the thief birds. We opted for a standard room, and never viewed the suites. It was, in fact, standard. Again, clean... But no frill. They have very tiny bathrooms like you'd find in a 2 star hotel. And the mattress was very, very firm. No gifts, no towel animals. Bottom line, this place should be a lot cheaper. The price point is comparable to much nicer places. I feel like the beach condition should be made clear above all else.

We lost water, electricity, and food was bad

Pros: Beach was nice and staff spent a lot of time with entertaining the kids.
Cons: Food, reservations, more staff so you don't have to close one to open the other, higher end liquor served all day.
Location: Best food we eat was in town Snorkle
The resort is small, the two pools are small, kids pool is a little bigger. The bars and restaurants take turns being open, so when they say they have all these bars and restaurants, don't count on them being open. When one opens the other closes. If you are looking for higher quality liquor, you can only get that after 6 till 11. The buffet is only one open from morning till night. This is the kicker, if you want to eat at the two better restaurants you have to go in person to the one restaurant between 11 - 12 and stand in line till a guy writes you reservation down. So bottom line is, if you are out on excursions during the day or playing golf you have to drop everything go and stand in line for 30 - 45 min. to make reservations. If you don't make reservations, the only way to eat is at the buffet. The buffet takes the same items each day and just recreates them into different looking food each day, but still the same taste, blaaa! On our second night at the resort, our lights went out. I have to where a C Pack for medical reasons, and suddenly I could not breath, took 2 1/2 hours to restore. Back to the food on the one night we finally got a reservation for the nicer resturant, the food once again was recreated from the buffet, do not expect any good seafood, or steak. The second time we stood in line for reservations for the steak house, we learned it was only open fri. - sun, so never got a chance to eat there. Third day we had no water in our room.

GREAT TIMES!!!

Cons: Needs updated. Feel like the rooms take you back to the 80s.
My family and I just experienced Melia in Cozumel. We truly loved it!! Where to start???........Lets do an outline: 1)Food The buffet was the BOMB!! We had from delicious T-Bone Steak to Homemade Omelets!! Being from Nebraska where the BEEF is Awesome is saying a lot. Not very thick. Lets not go overboard here but very tasty. The entire Buffet was incredible. Heres a secret for you...if you request from the waiter true blue ice cream...you will receive it and its wonderful. Your kids will love it. 2)Sleep Beds are very comfortable while the rooms NEED updated. I think that was the only downside. Rooms very clean however. 3)Staff Very Very Very kind and helpful staff 4)Booze Bacardi light and dark rum and Jim Beam. However if you venture into the Lobby Bar in the evenings they have Crown Royal and Don Juilio Teq. 5)Beach Very long nice, clean beach. Facing the ocean if you walk next door to the left you can snorkel in beautiful clear water. Bring your snorkel gear. 6)No lines Being a smaller resort we did not experience waiting in lines for anything. From the bar to the buffet....NO lines. 7)Quacamole(not sure how to spell) Fresh everyday in the outside snack and lunch area just next to the beach bar. All said and done we really enjoyed the 10 day stay and may go back very soon. Hope your not disappointed!!!

3rd time's the charm

This was out 3rd stay in 11 months.  For us it just keeps getting better and better.  You can walk for an hour to the north on the beach.  A two minute walk to the south will take you to some really good shore snorkeling.  $7.00 cab ride to town.  I really think the food has come along way since June.  One night at the buffet I had a filet that was on par with any I've ever had.  Night life isn't all that, rooms a little dated but we like enough that we'll be back in February.

Although compared to other resorts, the Melia was less expensive; however, this resort was a perfect example of "you get what you pay for..."

Pros: breakfast was good but why ask "free?"
Cons: Nothing close, understaffed, poor food selections, unfriendly staff
Overall the Melia was okay to average... we realized that traveling with a group of people we would have to comprimise certain amenities, but this was WAY below my expectation levels. Upon check in our room was not ready - we had to wait almost 2 hours for our room - regular check in is 3pm & we still had to wait until 4pm to get into our room. The front desk staff left much to be desired for with their efficiency, ability to answer questions, sense of urgency & basic friendliness. The room was decent & clean. Only 2 "English channels" on TV & one of them was often staticy & signal would go in/out. No refrigerators in room, but were indicated in trip contract. No clocks in room. Phone was not working for half a day. One day we had no water for several hours. The next day there was no hot water for several hours. Did not have a "do not disturb sign." The bed was extremely firm & I did not sleep well all week. Cleaning staff did the basics, but you could tell they did not thoroughly clean the room/bathroom. Staffing levels always seemed to be below adequate service levels. 1 bartender at bars with many people constantly waiting for 1 example. For an all inclusive resort - nothing seemed to be convenient to get to for food/beverage. The lobby bar was only open in the evening, outdoor bars closed at sundown & service bar in buffet restaurant so between the 4 bars, there were never more than 2 open at one time. Some employees were great, but many were rude & not friendly at all - if they even spoke to you. Breakfast was the only decent meal; however, only 2 days had breakfast sausage & there was never any bacon - but there was usually "grilled sausage" which were cut up hot dogs! Most likely the leftover product from the beach bar the day before! I was able to find something to eat for the other meals, but overall the menu options were extremely disappointing! Some options were just awful - even to look at. Fresh fruit available at breakfast, but not lunch or dinner. Some things not identified. The jar of honey looked liked maple syrup & many people made mistake of putting honey on food. The honey & maple syrup were in bottles with no handles and were always dirty & sticky. The spa & gym were very nice. Beach was nice, but often dirty with cups & straws. Beach chairs old & dirty & bird droppings where you place your head. The resort just looked old in general. No Zumba? No parasailing offered? I did not want to travel to other locations for some activities - it would be nice to do on resort. Being on west side of island - you had to face the buildings when lying in the sun - I'm on vacation in Mexico, I want to face the ocean not the building. Water was darker blue not the clear aquamarine blue you hoped for. All in all - was extremely disappointing & we will never stay here again. We truly got what we paid for.

STARVING AT THE MELIA

Pros: Close restaurants
Terrible food. Beach was beautiful, great location. Resort was very nice however food variety, quality and overall experience was very disapoointing. I would guess over 50% of the quest were sick the week we were there. Add says each room has wifi this is not true the lobby is the only area that has it and oh course its very poor.

Our favorite place to stay.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet, Free breakfast
Cons: Nothing close
We love the island of Cozumel and have made many trips over the years. The past three times that we've went, we stayed at the Melia. The hotel sits right on the beach. No road between the resort and the ocean, unlike some of the other resorts. The food quality has improved over the years, we were extremely satisfied with the food. The staff is top notch. Everyone was so kind and willing to please. We have a 5 year old that travels with us and we feel safe with him here. The room is clean, and the shower was great, but the beds could use a new mattress. Overall I have a feeling that the next time we look to visiting cozumel, this will be at the top of our list.

All problems resolved but it would be nice to not have issues.

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet
Cons: Poor breakfast
I had all inclusive with golf. Everyone in our group which totaled around 21 had to fight with the front desk for the golf. If we didn't have a copy of it we probably wouldn't have gotten it. It was even on there own web site for the rest of December but they still tried to bock on it. The buffet was OK but very little selection. Hard to get top shelf liquor unless you complained and tipped the bartender enough. Beach was great but the water had some debris which made it hard for snokeling, although just west was great snorkeling behind a break wall. Also they apparently took out the bar TVs so we counldn't watch any football games. The music played was also not very good.
