Major Attractions in Brunswick
Taking a step back in time to Brunswick's colonial plantation days, a visit to Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation shows period architecture, as well as how the colonists lived in those times. Tours are available to see the plantation actors in action. Blythe Island Regional Park offers visitors a break from the hustle (though slower than normal, it is!) of city life. Don't forget your camera! Spend the day hiking the wooded trails or fish from a pontoon in the waters. Lover's Oak provides an even quieter respite from city life, or for a romantic moment with your significant other. Brunswick Annual Events
The Island Treasures event, which takes place every January and February, is quite unique. Jekyll Island commissions artists locally and from around the nation to create glass globe figurines. Then, the globes are hidden all around Jekyll Island for lucky locals and visitors to find. Each May, the local Portuguese community pays homage to the sighting of the Virgin Mary by three youths in 1917 by hosting the Blessing of the Feet ceremony. Local parishioners take part in the event, where a statue identical to the original in Fatima is decorated and then carried through the streets while parishioners and visitors sing.
