Austin business trip
Beautiful property & accommodations. Price initially looks pretty good, but fees & taxes add up quickly, putting it in line with a nice hotel room in downtown Austin. Valet parking is really the only option, at $40 per day/overnight. Also seemed a bit pricey. And having no access to your vehicle (other than having a valet get items from your car, or bringing your car out of the garage) was for me inconvenient. You have to pay for the parking (and add the tip) up front. Tipping prior to receiving a service seems backwards to me, but not really a choice here, unless you carry a wad of cash around.
Fortunately I didn’t lose a room key - it’s $100 fee if you do, a fact that is mentioned many many times.
The security deposit arrangement is kind of cheesy. You choose: a small, non refundable deposit. Or, a large refundable deposit. Except that not all of the large refundable deposit is actually refunded to you!
I used the exercise room, very nice. Top floor pool is very cool also, but on a nice day expect it to be crowded. If you’re into the bar scene, Rainey St is literally a stone’s throw away, and 6th St is a 15 minute walk.
I tried this because I was attending a conference/convention in downtown Austin, as a possibly less expensive/nicer alternative to a downtown hotel. Turns out it was just about the same $ for a 3 night stay.
Would I do it again?
For a vacation/wedding/personal event? Probably.
For a business trip? Probably not.
