With more than 2,000 skiable acres and miles of hiking and biking trails, it's hard to get bored in this old mining town that also packs a great deal of historic charm. Flights to Telluride land at the Telluride/Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) in Montrose, roughly 65 miles away from Telluride.

Transportation from MTJ

You can find several lodging options just south of MTJ in the center of Montrose, or drive to Telluride the same day to find many more hotels in Telluride itself. Travelers landing on Telluride flights have a number of ways to access Telluride. There are several on-site rental car agencies, but renting a vehicle is, generally, not recommended, as Telluride is quite small and pedestrian-friendly. Having a car in town may be more of a hindrance than anything. Luckily, there are several shuttle agencies to choose from if your hotel isn't one of the many that offer complimentary transportation from the airport. Then drop off your bags and pull on your snow pants! Planning to hit the slopes during your stay? Here's a pro tip: buy your lift tickets online at least 48 hours in advance and you could save 8%! Although Telluride is mostly famous for skiing, don't be fooled -- your recreational options actually multiply in the summer, when snow cover recedes to allow everything from hiking, to mountain biking, to river rafting. If you're feeling worn out, take things down a notch and visit the Telluride Historical Museum, or see a show at the Sheridan Opera House. Telluride may be small, but there are more than 50 restaurants here, so you're sure to have a happy belly, too.
