We had an ER visit on the day of check in and with all the chaos, we didn’t had the opportunity to call the hotel to inform them that we are checking in the next day. We were told the next day (by the hotel) that the booking is gone. We had to make another booking directly with the hotel due to that. In addition, we were charged cancellation fees! We paid in full for the initial booking by the way! We requested hotels.com to have it waived as it was an emergency. But the hotel management denied the request!
