Great budget-friendly stay with kitchen amenities We stayed at Lamplighter Inn & Suites at SDSU for 3 nights in April 2025 and had a pleasant experience overall. The location is quiet and convenient — easy to reach downtown and Balboa Park by car. The room was clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchenette: it had all the basic cookware and utensils we needed, plus a large fridge and coffee maker. Free parking was a big plus. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but enough to start the day — waffles, toast, yogurt, juice, coffee, and hard-boiled eggs. Only downside: we couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi in our room and didn’t use it. Also, the furniture could use a refresh, but everything worked fine. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. A very good stay — comfortable, convenient, and affordable. We’d stay again despite minor issues.

The property has a central location convenient to get to most San Diego points of interest within 30 minutes. The staff did an excellent job cleaning the room and the common areas. The inn is showing a little age and wear in this area of carpet in the room and some other room featuresss though.

It was a one night stay for us while we attended a family function. The front desk service was pleasant. We had to wait a short while to get into our room due to a plumbing repair. Our room was clean and bathroom was clean. Our bed was comfortable and the linens were very nice. Plenty of hot water. The grounds are impeccable with lots of flowers and neatly trimmed areas. Breakfast was good. The room furnishings and carpet are a little tired but overall, this is an impressive lodging for the price.

The hotel was OK. The room was clean and smelled like cleaning products. The bed was lumpy, and the pillows were the lumps, most uncomfortable pillows ever, and the sheets were scratchy.
