I typically do not write poor reviews however this Riu lacked top quality. At first when we arrived everything was great they upgraded our room which was no upgrade as room was extremely dirty. Bathroom had hair in shower mold between tiles corners of room have never been cleaned. Worst was coming in one night as when we turned on lights one cockaroach ran so we had to kill and then I went to use bathroom and killed another. That was not only cockroach I was one also on floor in lunch area around the food. I was also surprised that asked for a later check out since flight was later and the guest service was rude and didn’t even look at computer simply said no late checkout we can’t accommodate you . After saying at other Riu I will not be returning the food also lacked very dry and super hard bread every morning .

I have been to newer RIU properties for eg RIU Ocho Rios in Jamaica and it was beautiful there. But RIU Punta Palace is nice too. But not as new as RIU Ocho Rios. Still enjoyed my time because the staff was wonderful

The hotel grounds beach pool were beautiful, the rooms were average, beds not that comfortable, low grade finishes in bathrooms and rooms, the restaurants were average, but the food buffet (breakfast dinner) was excellent with plenty of variety. Hotel staff friendly. New years eve Party was family friendly and a 10! Very fun and lively and free for guests. went on two excursions. Scuba caribe snorkelling was great. Overall good experience.

I was initially given room 2010. It had a hole in the wall, paint splatter all over including, phone, night stand and headstand. It also smelled like mildew. After calling the front desk I was moved to room 1143. 1143 was better. No mildew smell but the shower drain and sinks didn't drain well, there was mildew buildup around the shower. The showerhead didn't work at all so I made attempts to change rooms again. They sent me a plumber to fix it but they couldn't so I was told to wait until the morning since they had no rooms. After formally complaining to Expedia and to Riu through their website they came knocking at 1am to move me to a nicer and apparently available room, 1179. Once there our stay improved but we were not happy about the first two rooms which honestly shouldn't be given to anyone. I have pictures of those first two rooms. They were in horrible conditions.
