Internet is faulty in the rooms, better in the lobby so I couldn’t work in the evening. The rooms are as clean as old things can be. I don’t mean antiques I mean old beat-up furniture. The walls in my room had marks of furniture rubbing against them. There was a faux leather chair with pieces of leather missing. The desk was pretty old and the desk chair had so many wood scratches, deep ones and the wheels didn’t roll on the carpet. I felt sad for the place having so much history but it needs millions in renovations to bring into modern times. The rooms have no heater or A/C so they brought up a small space heater. The rotary phone is cute but wasn’t working so 3 times I had to go down to front desk. The bar closes 8:30, I returned from work and found the bartender cleaning up to close for the night. The carpets are ancient and no amount of vacuuming will bring them back to life. So sad that this could be a gem but is not even reasonably comfortable accommodations. Good for history buffs maybe but that’s it.

The room was nice and clean. The shower was in need of a deep clean, but was usable. It was centrally located to downtown and made walking a breeze. I wish the bar or restaurant were open. We missed those, but the breakfast was good with different options.

The website description was false and misleading. There is no onsite restaurant, and the lounge is only open for a few hours 3 days a week. The reception staff were cold and rude. This hotel prides itself on the many famous people who once stayed there, long ago. However, none of those people whose portraits hang on the walls would set foot in that place now. This is without doubt the worst place I have ever lodged. Who ever owns this hotel obviously has no interest in reviving it, and shame on Wyndham Hotels for their participation in this sham. Whatever you do stay somewhere else if visiting Eureka.

We spent very little time in our room, but the time we did spend in the room was unpleasant. Just after falling asleep, The compressor on refrigerator kicked on and vibrated the entire cabinet and TV. After unplugging we spent the next several hours listening to the neighbors upstairs. Bed was very uncomfortable. There was no hot water! Shower was cold, which we needed to wake us up after a bad sleep. The breakfast was some toast and jam. Not a great experience.

The bathroom was infested with ants. I have to keep them drowning them in the sink so they wouldnt get to the bedroom. The lighting is horrible very poor and dim without even a lamp on the desk. The toilet seat cover was loose and kept on moving when one sat on it. They certainly need a lot of upkeep and maintenance to do to the rooms. One is fooled by the gorgeous historic lobby and grand entrance hall to the hotel.
