Local business is a huge part of the Appalachia economy. In Ashe County, and surrounding areas, Ashe County Cheese is a big hit. It provides employment. These cows were built and installed by the local high school welding class. #appalachianechoes

Beautiful day in West Jefferson at the Ashe County Cheese Factory. The cow sculptures were built and installed by the local high school welding class.
This is a shot that I took about a month ago on a plot of land that belongs to a family friend. A defining part of the picture besides the two animals shown is the rolling mountain side in the background which would be the first identifier that that picture could reflect Appalachia. The characteristic that drew me to this picture is the relationship between animals and the kind of curiosity that both of them share. This somewhat resembled a clashing of two worlds, kind of like what happened when the Appalachian mountain range was a sort of 'New Frontier'. #appalachianechoes
