My family of three travels to Volcano often and we have stayed in many vacation rentals. However, there are three, fairly significant, things that we have never encountered 1)In bullet point #16 of 19 of the check-in information, the host recommends that you don’t cook with or drink the water. The host provides 3 gallons of bottled water, which is likely fine for a short stay, but for over 2 days, you should expect to buy bottled water. The house does have a catchment (standard for homes in the area) and the water is filtered, but it is unclear if it is sub-standard, or if this bullet point was for liabilities sake.2)Volcano is gorgeous, but it can get cold at night. The host provides roughly 2 nights worth of firewood and space heaters. If the temperature gets into the low 50s, the house is cold. If you are staying longer than 2 nights, expect to purchase wood . 3)The guest is responsible for delivering all of the trash to a transfer station. The two nearby transfer stations are only open 6 days a week. If you check out on Wednesday, you will need to plan ahead and transfer your garbage before you check out, or haul somewhere else. The smell in the Queen bathroom was still present when we were there. It came and went, but when it was there, it was very obvious and unpleasant. All that said, we had some lovely relaxing times sitting on the lanai or snuggled by the fire. But, due to the three things above, I wouldn’t stay there again.
