Beach vacation

We enjoyed our vacation to South Padre and the Pearl South Resort was a good place but not great. Staff was very friendly and courteous so they earned a 5 star rating. Rooms are a little run down but not terrible, yet they could use a makeover. Mattress was really bad as far as what I like and really needed to be replaced. The grounds and pool area were well kept and you are right on the beach. Great location and a good restaurant on site. I would give it a 3 1/2 star rating overall but I’d not pay a full price on this place. I got a deal so I’m ok with it. If you fly into Brownsville like we did and rent a car beware! The airport is not good and very run down. Dollar Rental put the screws to me on my rental fees as well. Stay away from them!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. My staff will be very pleased to have earned 5 stars. I always say that a comfy bed and a friendly staff is the basics everyone should expect at any hotel. So I apologize that you felt our beds are not to your liking. They are not that old but I know like myself I don't like a real stiff bed I like something more in between. Some of our guests don't know that we also have a full service Spa. It is located in the building that is right next door to us. Please look into it on your next visit with us. You will be glad you did.

Not worth the money

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the lobby was beautiful which was very deceiving because the rooms were so outdated and worn. Our tub wouldn’t drain, not once was our room cleaned or towels replaced in the three days we stayed, we had to go find a cleaning lady to get new towels. Beds were uncomfortable and the pillows went completely flat the second you lay on them. The water in the shower was like warm, couldn’t get it hot in three days of trying. I have paid less for other hotels in padre and got WAY better service, cleaner room and a more comfortable bed. Won’t spend the money here again.

I am so surprised that my housekeeping team and engineering team would not have been able to rectify these issues if they were made aware of them. The only time we don't service our guest's rooms is when they have a do not disturb on the door. The city of South Padre Island has had some water issues in the last few weeks that have effected the entire island. It is usually fixed in an hour or so when they turn on some more pumps from their local plant. I am at least pleased that my staff was friendly and helpful as I am sure if you reported these issues to them they tried to remedy them the best they could.

Pearl South Padre

Cockroaches! Old run down hotel with staff that is far from accommodating. Cold hot tub and over priced drinks at the bar with no alcohol. Will not recommend to others or stay again.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. We know that the hotel could use some more modern upgrades but from our hot tub to our cocktails we ensure they all are up to code and are made properly. I would have to look into why you feel that we failed in this area. Thank you for your feedback.

Great location

Pros: Location
Cons: Put water in the rooms and more coffee. Only coffee for two cups!!
Location: On the beach with pretty pool.
The beds seemed old and not very comfortable. The linens were well worn as well. Our room was very damp (probably the air conditioner). Our cloths were very damp this morning when we went to pack up to leave.

Not impressed at all

Hotel was old, the room & the halls, along with the decor was very old. I was not impressed at all. The gazebo advertised was closed all weekend, such a bummer indeed. The balcony was small and the view was obtrusive. The AC never cooled, over all it was a bad experience. HOWEVER, the restaurant was amazing! The food served was exceptionally delicious. Our server was Mercedes, she provided excellent service and made our stay better.

Close to the beach, great pool but rooms could use

The pool area could use more lights at night for safety reasons. The outside restroom near the pool were disgusting and full of sand. The rooms need some remodeling, especially the restroom. The air conditioning in the room was not working properly.

Pearl is Not Always a Jewel

Pros: Nice pool areas; staff was friendly. Ate in the restaurant first night; had the seafood buffet. It was good.
Cons: Maid service. Smell of interior.
Older hotel; did not smell good for some reason. We had a balcony on our room and upon arrival, their was bird poop all over it; had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. Maid service did not show up first day there. I had to call twice to get them to send Maid Service, supply toilet tissue, clean towels. Last day there, Maid Service did show up and cleaned room and balcony, but I believe that had I not called, they may have not showed up on last day either. Staff was friendly; no complaints about the staff.

Nice location

Food is ok not a good value. Way too expensive food .According to marketing a resort fee is charged ,no resort services provided , not even pool towels were provided. No beach chairs provided no pool bar open , no pool waiter present . Hotel needs updating . I think their rates and fees are riding in the conttails of the past without updating . E.g. 1 omelet and 2 scramble eggs plus 2 pineapple jiuces and extra sausage 30 plus dollars I believe 37 .
