Get away at the Sophia.

Posted Sep 4, 2016 on Hotels
My wife and I just wanted to get away for a couple of days. The Sophia was perfect for a short stay. The hotel is in a nice location to walk almost anywhere downtown. Just a short drive to Old Town San Diego. Parking was expensive, but other than that, a nice get away hotel.

great deal...with no parking

Posted Aug 31, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: location
Cons: valet and parking
Location: nice area to walk around
we were shocked when we pulled up to only find about ten spaces. When we asked the valets if there was anywhere else we could park, we got attitude and no help. We ended up paying an additional $35 for valet. The concierge was great, but our first experience of the staff was the valets and they ruined it, but it was an uphill battle

Sweet space but not worth the $$$

Posted Aug 31, 2016 on Hotels
The Sofia Hotel is a sweet boutique hotel and beautifully appointed. I heard the hotel agent next to me offer a map of the area. I was not offered the same map (which was very very helpful) I had to request it. I booked a double room for my daughter and myself to celebrate my 65th birthday. The room was VERY SMALL and the bathroom was SOOO NOT PRIVATE - only a sliding door that did not close all the way. I booked a "city view" but the windows on the INSIDE were filthy ... sticky hand prints all over.I had to request housekeeping clean the windows. The biggest offense is the PARKING is $36 a day. If you are hungry, don't plan to eat at the restaurant unless you can cash in a CD. It's VERY EXPENSIVE ... for the working folks - not affordable but for the rich/famous not so much. I would not book here again.
