When I travel, I rarely spend much time in my hotel beyond sleeping. This was the first trip I’ve ever taken when hanging out at the hotel was just as much fun and just as beautiful as exploring the area. Unpack your bags at La Mansion Inn and stick around—you won’t regret it. This hotel is one of the few hotels in the area that overlooks two beaches. Everywhere you look, there is a stunning view. Head up to the pool and the views will take your breath away. Our standard hotel room was huge. The view from our room of Manuel Antonio beach was gorgeous. Sitting outside for morning coffee, listening to the birds, and sometimes getting a surprise “guest” on our balcony (“hi there, monkey!”) were some highlights of our room experience. As if the room and pool area were not enough, La Mansion Inn has the best staff and service I’ve ever experienced. Because it is a relatively small hotel, you have a chance to meet many staff members and see them multiple times through your stay. They go way above and beyond the call of duty. Roy, at the pool, saw that I had my camera with me and started pointing out the wildlife that you could see from the pool (including a sloth that was pretty far away but somehow, he could see her!) One of the managers, Octavia, took every effort to make sure our trip was perfect. When I asked him about bringing home some Costa Rican skin care products, his response was “I know a guy. I’ll find it for you!” When I say “above and beyond”, I really mean it!

Well-appointed boutique hotel

Pros: staff, food, views, rooms, pool, skyview deck
Cons: some of the things in the room didn't work reliably - like the wi-fi, and the shower had great water pressure, but the temperature was variable
Location: There's a walkable beach, and a walkable touristy town, but the main attraction was Manuel Antonio National park that was ~40 minutes away.
It's hard to know which to list first, but in the order that I experienced the hotel: The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. All the front-desk, waiters and bar-staff had really good English, and were pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. It was a delight to interact with them. The view of Manuel Antonio park was amazing - there's an upper pool deck where you can order drinks and snacks that pretty much has a 360 degree view of the rainforest, ocean, etc.that's just breath-taking And the rooms are clean, neat, well air-conditioned and unique - each room was decorated individually so the lamps, tables, etc. all match. Lastly, the food was amazing - gourmet and well-presented. I'd say it was cheap relative to buying the same meal in the US, but there are more inexpensive options all around in the nearby town of Quepos. Both walkable (maybe 20 minutes), and some other options drivable. Plenty of wildlife all around - lizards, monkeys, frogs, etc. I didn't try the really local beach, but the two beaches at Manuel Antonio - both the public one and the one inside the national park - were amazing.

The hotel needs extreme updating...

We stayed at the La Mansion Inn for 4 nights and had a good experience. Upon checking in, we were greeted warmly by ABC and XYZ and given an upgraded penthouse room which was very spacious and had spectacular views of the ocean and Manuel Antonio park. The customer service as well as the breakfast on the patio were excellent. The rooftop patio was also wonderful with magnificent views on both sides. The car service both to/from the Quepos airport and local transfers was excellent, especially the driver Bernie. To call this hotel a "luxury world class hotel" is far from accurate. I'm sure it was in its day- but that was long ago and it shows. Pretty much everywhere you look needs updating and the list is too long to detail. There are moldy basement smells in a lot of the public areas including the Cave Bar and VIP room making them impossible to be in. Friends of ours had to have their room changed due to this moldy smell. The mattress and bedding in our room were pretty bad and far from "luxurious". The pool and hot tub are tiny and not a fun place to hang out. The only internet access is available in the lobby and the VIP room. There are no elevators and if you have a room located on the far end of the hotel, there are literally 57 steps to climb. The overall feel of the hotel is a bit "tacky" and "funky".

This is one of the leading hotels of the world--without a doubt. The suites were spectacular with a huge crystal chandelier, beautiful carpets, large oversized white linen sofas, and a full granite bathroom. The views if the ocean were spectacular! The hotel wait staff is impeccable and very very welcoming. What a gem of a hotel--5 stars all the way.
