Decent hotel near beach

The resort talked us into upgrading to Royal Service. They were supposed to provide a butler service with that. We asked repeatedly about our butler and never got answers. We never saw him in four days. It was a waste of money. People were trying to sell us things constantly. It was hard to just sit back and relax. We also were supposed to have $550 resort credit. We could not get answers about that. So we never saw that money either. We stayed 4 days and were beyond ready to come home.

Nice landscape, but could improve service

Great hotel location with beautiful gardens and beach. Buffet restaurant could use some improvements on selection and service. I was able to enjoy two other restaurants with much better experience (The grill an Argentinian style and Fuego a Latin fusion) service and food on both were great. Night activities were great with nice dancing music (Latin and other kind of music) Room in good condition, but are getting closer for a needed update (tile, living room area) All other staff members were in general polite, but comparing my experience with other Paradisus (Playa del Carmen, México and Cancun) this one in Punta Cana was not at same level. In general great option, but staff need some training and better incentives to treat with excellence costumers.

Dear Guest, As a service-oriented company, we highly appreciate our guests' opinion and therefore we recognize the value of taking your time to let us know about your experience. It pleases me to read that you loved our beach, we have a great beach and grounds in our paradise; but despite of that positive point we are sorry to hear that your stay with us was not completely satisfactory as you expected. Please be assured that what you experienced does not represent our values of gracious, sophisticated and personalized service that we strive to deliver to each of our guest every day. I will personally look into these points in order to improve this area and keep our highest standards. We kindly hope to have the opportunity to serve you and regain your confidence. Best Regards, Christelle Luchini, Hotel Manager Paradisus Punta Cana

Dated but nice

Checked in late so we didn't get the low down on how everything worked but figured it out soon. People were great, food was great can't really complain. Place is 20 yrs old and needs a little updating. Some are being updated as we speak. Everyone was happy. Beach is great. I did get tired of being solicited for everything. But I guess that's the way it is there. I can't really complain. We didn't get the royal service but somehow survived without a butler. We ate at buffet all meals except for 2. If you went hungry you have a problem. Took 100 ones and tipped the staff.

Beware of bed bugs

Pros: The cleaning staffs and the restaurant staffs are super nice. Even though some of them only spoke limited English. Can't say the same for reception.
Cons: Train the entire reception staffs including the manager.
First day of arrival, I have to wait until 6:45pm to get one of the room keys, only after the third call to front desk and then walked up to the reception myself to get it. Every morning I have to wait on line like everyone else if you want to book a dinner reservation. I am usually the fourth or fifth person but still couldn't get the restaurant that I wanted it at a reasonable time. I then settled for at least the third choice because my two kids can't wait til 8 or 9 pm to have dinner. That is not the worst of all. My kid's first encountered with bed bug bites. I then switched bed with her and then I got them too. Fortunately she recovered in a few days, but I wind up in the doctor's office with medication and creams costing me a couple of hundred dollars. Worst of all, I am so fearful that I might have brought them back to my home. I did take all kind of precaution..such as washing every piece of clothes with hot water and dried them in high heat. When I notified the hotel the first time, they told me that they would change the sheets for me. They either don't have any clues as to what bed bugs are or they just played dumb. I felt like they did not even understand what I was talking about. When I checked out the last day, I told the reception again. Make sure they cleaned up the room prior to serving the next victim. I did not confirmed they were bed bug bites until second to the last day. Otherwise I would have insisted changing to a different room.

Decent weather, great atmosphere.

Location: Plenty of options for excursions, but be prepared for the inevitable trove of locals trying to sell you junk or wash your feet off.
We were greeted at the front desk of the Paradisus Punta Cana resort, and were then driven to the private check-in location. Since it was our honeymoon, we opted for the 'Royal Service' room which came with that private check-in, private use of pool and lounge area, and a butler. The private pool was really nice; I was able to drink top shelf alcohol (which was a surprise for me when we got there) and sit in one of the many cabanas. Bartenders were super nice and alert, and made some great drinks (blue label for me, frozen mojitos for her). The hotel itself was a huge compound. To get to the front of the hotel from the beach (where our room was) a shuttle or a 5 minute walk was needed. There were plenty of options for food, which our butler made reservations for us each night. Speaking of butlers - ours was Alex for the week. He made our week that much better, and we would ask for him if we ever return. Not only did he make reservations, but he handled the little things you don't think to do on vacation. I was very impressed with his ability to find us every day to make sure everything was going ok, but at the same time wasn't overbearing or hounding us. Thanks, Alex! There were some slight negatives, but wouldn't change my overall view. First, the room smelled like strong cleaning solution (bleach?) when first entering, but would dissipate after leaving the glass door open for a bit. The second would be the excursions and the people selling things.

Great Hotel real close to beach

The staff were super friendly and very helpful. When you first check in you have a staff member explain the benefits of staying at their hotel and all the great things you can experience. Nilbio was our staff member and he was super nice and very helpful, he took care of setting up all of our dinner reservations for our entire stay. I highly recommend this resort to anybody

I expected more from the hotel

My experience was not the best but I'll try to be as accurate and fair as possible. First of all If you wanted help the word, propina, was essential to know, or in other words, tip. Some of the workers seem arrogant and joked with me a little too much since they knew I was Dominican. But anyways on my first day I was super excited to see my room and relax but when I entered I was struck with disappointment because the furniture seemed outdated and there were stains on the dresser and mirrors. Also, I'm allergic to dust and I noticed dust around the room. I felt that the room was dirty and then I called the receptionist so they can clean the room, or have us change rooms. The operater called back about 45 to minutes later to gives me details about my new room. They changed my room to another and eventually I got over it. The buffet was okay, I was expecting to eat a little more Dominican food but there was no plantains. The beach, pool, and scenery were gorgeous. I met great workers who were nice and professional but I can't say that it was all the workers. Once I got used the atmosphere I eventually ended up enjoying my trip.

NYE 2015

Pros: Royal Service and exceptional staff.
Location: Punta Cana. Bavaro Beach is very beautiful and clean. 20 min drive to Marinarium snorkel cruise was a lot of fun and worth the $100 pp for 4 hour fun.
A beautiful week in Punta Cana. Service staff was extremely friendly at Paradisus Punta Cana and always willing to help with a smile! Several a la carte restaurants to choose from, with Vento(Mediterranean) and the Royal Service exclusive, Lapalapa restaurant, being our favorites, but all were good or very good. Beach was perfect with cabana beds - not too difficult to snag in the mornings. Royal Service lounge is very nice with snacks and top shelf drinks to choose from. Dominican coffee served in every restaurant here is worth the trip alone. Delicious! A special shout out to our Royal Service Butler, Frank. He was extremely friendly and courteous, going out of his way to make our vacation enjoyable and worry-free. He is a hard working young man and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors in the hospitality industry. Thank you, Frank!

Beautiful hotel & beach, spotty service & food

Pros: The design, the grounds, the beach, pool, room
Cons: communication amongst staff, service speed, food quality.
Location: we didn't go off the grounds because we were only there for 3 days. its about 25 mins to airport, 600 peso cab ride.
Paradisus is a beautiful hotel with nice rooms, grounds, and a beautiful beach. We had a number of issues with food and service, possibly because this is the off-season and the staff is on its B game or too drastically downsized? When we arrived at our room after a golf cart ride (the place is very big), neither of our keys would work, so the bell boy used his key to get us in, took ours and said he'd bring back new ones for us. This did happen 45 minutes later, all the while we were waiting to get out of the room and go explore and eat dinner. In the interim, we called the express concierge several times. First they said ok they'd look into it. Second time, they asked if I had called the registration desk (no phone number provided in our room for the desk - and why didn't they connect me there the first time?), third time when I asked for the hotel manager, I was transferred to the VIP lounge. Some other things to be aware of, when you leave the room all the electricity goes off so your AC does too as well as the minibar. The minibar never gets cold, just mildly cool - this is normal and the repairman said its operating as planned. Our minibar was to be re-stocked every day but it wasn't. Our room wasn't cleaned until 3 or 4pm - and the resort was largely empty. We opted to purchase the "royal service" upgrade which includes some spa access but the desk didn't know the spa was closed for renovation. Food was hit or miss, all desserts were awful.
