Successful girls trip!!!!

We just returned from a 6 night stay at Bahia Principle Bavaro. This place was very nice. We had stayed at the Amelia before and some quick differences that we noticed were that even though this resort is big, the pools were more centrally located to rooms so you didn't have to go clear down to the beach to use the pool. We were taken care of from the minute we got there. Our flight out of Atlanta was delayed 8 hours but the check-in at 4:30am still happened in less than 30 minutes (Melia took us an hour plus!). They also had food 24-hours a day, which the Melia didn't. There are different levels so make sure you chooose the one that fits your liking. Next time (and yes, there will be a next time!) we will go to the Adults Only area. There were a lot of kids which didn't bother me; however there seemed to be more activities poolside at the Adult Only areas. IF you bring your kid(s) - make sure you don't drag them to the bar with you late at night. Saw plenty of that...just not okay at anytime! The swim-up bartenders and also lobby bartenders are busy but just a smile or quick conversation would make things more of a better environment. They would also make more tips! The food was good - could always find something we liked. One egg maker and pasta maker (sorry, can't remember their names) but they were the best! Always had a smile and loved what they do! Thanks for the great experience - we will be back!!!

Beautiful place, amazing time

I am not sure why some people have any complaints about this hotel, but I couldn't have asked for anything better. The food was great especially the steak house, the pools and beach were perfect, rooms were clean comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. Any thing we needed we had. Highly recommend this hotel and cannot wait to go back some day.

Tile floor, which is fine but dirty. The room itself, very dusty. Bathroom mirror stained. Terrible lighting. Had to call lobby 3 times to get a technician to room to re program safe. Safe not included in "all inclusive " rate.

Two Star - More negative than positive

Pros: The grounds are nice and the children's area is good.
Cons: Need to reduce the size of the resort to more manageable levels. It is just too big.and booked heavily
Location: Grandchildren enjoyed swimming with the sharks and manta rays.
Spent a week at the beginning of February. Have stayed in the complex two previous times. IMHO the hotel has gone down hill until would only give it a 2 star rating. The grounds and the outward appearance is still good but the room quality is less than previous trips over a six year period. Went as a family with six people ranging in age from 3 to mid 70"s. In one room the minibar was not working and the bathroom ceiling, was leaking from the unit above. But probably the greatest disappointment was the food quality which seemed to be recycled always from the previous day .Both my grandson and I came down with food poisoning from offerings at the super bowl party. When I first came to the resort six years ago the workers went out of their way to provide good service especially if you were leaving a small tip of even a dollar. Now they seem to feel their tips for anything should be $5 to $10 dollars. The resort tries to meet everyones needs and as a result is meets none It is too huge and has lost its focus. You are herded like cattle from place to place. They need a new property manager!

Amazing Getaway!

This was our second time at The Grand Bahia Principe. Our first trip was in 2004 and the resort has definitely grown! Our reservations were originally for Bavaro, but we upgraded to Ambar Green on our second day. The more luxury ammenaties were well worth the small price paid for the upgrade! All staff was willing to go above and beyond to accommodate! The breakfast and dinner buffets, along with the snack bar, had better food selections in Ambar than in Punta Cana or Bavaro. Finding chairs for beach or pool was also easier in Ambar. We were able to book restraunts at night with ease, as we had heard they book up quickly. As parents of four small children, we love kids, but Ambar being adults only was definitely a plus! Our first and only day in Bavaro was far from relaxing due to unsupervised children running here and there, and especially being all in the food at the snack bar. Clearly unsupervised children are the responsibility of their parents, so in no way did I feel like this was any fault of the resort! I cannot say enough good things about The Grand Bahia Principe and it will certainly not be 13 years before we visit again! Looking forward to our next visit!

nice hotel but

Pros: room was nice sized rooms
Cons: cleaned in a timely manner and without having to ask
Location: lost of things to do here if you spend alot of money
resort was very pretty and the grounds were clean and well kept. the food on the other hand was bad all but the garden grill it was great. at 10pm there is no entertainment it was boring at night, we had to ask daily for the room to be cleaned. DO NOT leave your cell phone in your room are it will be taken. the party boat was the best thing we done and the zip line was fun. the beach was nice but the water was rough to swim in

Pay for the safe case. They steal in the rooms.

I like this place i have been there twice however this last vacation i had things stolen out of my room on 3 different days. The first time the cleaning maid took $60 from my brothers wallet (never leave your wallet in the room when going at the beach). The 2nd time they stole 1 of my brothers hats (we had 8 hats with us so maybe they thought we wouldn't notice). The 3rd time i left $21 on 1 of my shorts before i left for the beach in the morning to test them see if they were really stealing cus we couldn't believe it since i was a bit skeptical. I thought maybe my brother left the hat somewhere or he miscounted the money before he left the room that first time but nope i go back to my room after spending my day at the beach and i check the shorts they had taken my $21... and i tipped this maids every day. We filed a report and they promised they would find out who did it and if they couldn't find out they would reimburse us. We only had 2 days left in the hotel and even though they said they would finish the investigation in 24 hours or less they never ended up finishing it so they told us to e-mail their security people and they would let us know. Not only they never responded to my e-mail but i spend $78 calling them from the US, they transferred me to 4 different departments and leaving me 40 mins on hold. At that moment i just hanged up. I called travelocity and they gave me $200 coupon for my next vacation. Other then the stealing, it was great vacation.

Paradise

Pros: Great location. Tranquil. Quiet, yet very lively whenever needed. So much to enjoy and be a part of... or several options to disconnect!
Cons: NOTHING!
Location: Went to several excursions including CoCo Bongo, Imagine, and the Adventure Buggy rides.
Attentive and uber courteous staff. Everyone was there to serve and help make my vacation the best time possible. The people were genuinely ecstatic to see you day in and day out. Their smiles and hospitality were infectious!!! I'm a Hospitality and Retail professional with over 14 yrs in the field and have never seen staff so attentive, on purpose, graceful, and genuine.

Terrible customer service.

The entire time we were there we would greet all employees, tip all bartenders (its all inclusive didnt see anyone else tip) and we got such poor greetings back and service. There were maybe three employees that we came across that were nice and had better service attitude. We found a roach in our room, we didn't complain about it. But when we went to use the computers in the concierge area they asked how was everything so we told them we found a roach in our room that morning. All the lady said was My Goodness and thats it. Didn't bother to call room service for us or even apologize for the incident. We couldn't log into the computers to access our boarding flights. They had us sitting there trying about 5 minutes without even asking if we needed help. They were gossiping in front of us and when we told them again that we still could not get on they were bothered by us. We had to leave without the access because we couldn't get online and they didn't help.

Senior Sisters and Spouses Get Away In Paradise!

Pros: It had plenty of activities for kids of every age. Kids camp, it has bars for dancing, nightly entertainment shows, safe tours, internet access.
Cons: We were confused and got off at a similar named hotel. We booked the Grand Bahia Principe "Bavaro", and got off at the Grande Bahia Principe.
Location: On the complex the trolly system is so awesome. Off premise tours are plentiful and easy to book and the system for booking is fantastic!
No need to rush to get your check in done like your 40yr. old kids do . My husband and I arrived from Texas first and booked our room then my sister & her husband arrived from Canada but by that time there were no more rooms available together. The hotel staff were super and went out of there way to accomadate us with rooms very close to each other. They spoke english and were so patient and throughly trained in their department. The buffet food was out of this world and the selection of specialty restaurants ( part of the all enclusive ) were super. The pools were beautiful , clean and well maintained and some steered towards families with children and some towards the adults with easy access for people with disabilities. I was worried about my slightly overwieght appearance but let me tell you there was every shape size and age and no one cared one bit about it. It is all about the experience of having a good time !! If I had to sum up my whole experience I would say it was a like a visit to Paradise!
