Great place for little ones or for families of 5

Pros: Everything is close - you can easily run back to your room from the pool or beach, between meals, etc. Liked buffets at Quetzal breakfast & dinner.
Cons: Communication about how to make dinner reservations, activities, etc. could be improved. We had to check out at Kids & Co and didn't know that.
Location: Marina Vallarta is a good location. We didn't really explore that area, but there seemed to be some nice restaurants and some shopping
This is a good resort for those traveling with little kids (0-6). They really cater to families. The resort is small and everything is close to the Kids & Co rooms. We stayed for a week and tired of the limited food options, but for a 4-5 day stay, I think it would be a great affordable solution. A la carte reservations were difficult to make, so we only ate in one of the restaurants. It was the Asian themed, and it was just ok. Even though reservations were required, it is located in the same place as the lunch buffet, and for dinner, the salad, soup and sushi were the same buffet style, so that was nothing special. Pool is nice, staff is nice. Beach is small but nice for the area. My 7-year-old daughter had spa services in the little girls' spa and felt special. Activities seemed plentiful, but with limited hours and availability, so we didn't do many of them. We went to a couple of the shows, and they were ok. The dancers are the same young people who work the activities, and they are sweet and full of energy. My teen son used the gym a couple of times.

beautiful gardens, excellent staff, fabulous food

Pros: the very friendly staff, lovely gardens and big pool
Cons: the pool tiles were aging. The pool could stand an update and makeover.....
Location: great location close to the airport and bus stop to town
comfortable and homey, not stuffy, clean, lots of activities, family friendly, would highly recommend and want to return. the only downside was that the beach was smaller and a bit graveley but they took good care of it and it was still enjoyable.

Good place for a Good Price

Pros: Clean, beautiful grounds.
Cons: Continue updating hotel to keep it current.
Location: GREAT location. You have the ocean at the resort (beach) and walk across the street to the Marina. Best of both worlds.
While Melia Resort is an older place, it has been kept up. It had many things to do, was clean, the food was fair to good. The service was really good from all the staff. We went in off season and there was not a lot of traffic which I think made the staff even more attentive. The special restaurants had excellent food presentation. The resort offers the ocean/beach and then you walk across the street to the Marina, with restaurants, shopping, etc. Good location. We felt very safe the entire time. Overall, we would return.

Ok, but probably wouldn't go back.

Pros: Clean rooms, nice staff
Cons: Pool has a lot of black stuff and missing tiles in the middle. Upper beach needs more sand. Some of the food could be improved. More Activities.
Location: Walking distance to the marina and shopping
Pros - room clean, wait staff, entertainment shows (except the comedy show) Cons - pool needed some repairs, upper beach needs upkeep, the birds Stayed for 4 nights. Garden room with a balcony was clean and bathrooms were nice. Just FYI - Housekeeping does not speak English if you need anything. No problems making reservations. Food varied in quality - grill night was fantastic, mexican night was blah, buffet varied in quality. Ate at lunch at a separate buffet from main house and it's so open that the birds are flying inside and stealing tortillas from the bar or walking on the plates. We did a couple of the activities that were free - there's a charge for minigolf and some of the others. Left the hotel twice. Located minutes from shopping and the marina. Downtown experience was oversold by the front desk. Outside of the hotel, got tired of constant harassment by locals to buy a timeshare or give massages. Overall, had a good time because of the company we were with, but probably wouldn't go back unless it was dirt cheap.

“GREAT VACATION, THANK YOU MELIA AND ALL YOUR STAF

Stayed there from 6/30 to 7/7 and from beginning to end, had an amazing time. I cannot speak for other people, but from our experience, our room was top notch, ocean view, marble shower/floors, a jacuzzi right outside on the balcony! king sized bed with overhead fan, AC worked great - so much so that we had to turn off on a few days because it was so cold (except for the times when you opened the balcony door, but c'mon you expect the AC keep the room cold while the caribbean humid air is coming in the room? not!# the livingroom with kitchen and entire room was spotless. we were also really impressed with water pressure inside the shower, I mean we felt like we were inside a waterfall. all the staff, from Ana our concierge, to Jonathan the bartender and restaurant host, to Luis on the security team, to Mariel who gave us our couples massage right on the beach, to Irma our cleaning lady, everyone went our of their way to make sure we had the best vacation ever. food at the buffet was very good and had something for everyone, the drinks people say are watered down which is not true, they make drinks on the light side to be on the safe side, but make no mistake, if you want to drink gasoline straight up, they will serve it to you or go find it for you if you if they dont have it, night after night we saw all the staff go out of their way to please everyone with whaterver their needs or request are, no matter how big or how small, and that deserves recognition. the hotel itself is very well kept, the swimming pool is enourmously big, beach is not that great but we found out its because the beach is federal property, not part of the resort, but the water is warm and pool water is even warmer. the gym modern and has free weights and machines for everyone and we got good workouts while there. The main bar is open until 1am not 11pm as people will lie about on here and also has a DJ or live singers every night, never did we get kicked out by security or asked to leave the area after it closed, in fact, after people were done drinking, we went to the snack bar which is open until 4am! for more food and drinks. they also have tons of activities for all ages, we did archery, rifle shooting, they have nightly shows, water exercises, bingo with prizes, hammocks to rest on, a volley ball net right in the pool, swim up bar with unlimitted drinks**strong or light, your choice**, 3 restaurants that need reservations which we never had any problems with, reservations took less than 2minutes, as for the restaurants we tried them all and liked the italian one best, but thats just personal preference. oh almost forgot, they have live Iguanas roaming the grounds which is also really cool! no worries about them bothering you or biting you, in fact, if you bring scrapts of food from the buffet, you can feed them and take pictures, they also have beautiful schools of multicolored fishes in the pond that also come up in masses for you to feed them with fish food located by the pond and they start jumping over each other to fight for food, tooo funny. Hotel is also the closest to the airport**less than 10minutes** and also close to marine terminal for the tours **about 7minutes or less** which comes in handy if you're running late to catch a tour. the Marina is also steps from the hotel and has many shops for shopping, a grocery store, a large assortment of restaurants. The mexicon peso on our trip was exchanged at $11.90 person per 1 US dollar which basically transpires to about $10 US dollars for $100 mexican pesos and can be done directly at the hotel service desk. Hotel also tells you how much to pay for taxis and other services so you do not get overcharged and what requires a tip and what does not, which is really helpful. all and all, we had a great time! at Melia and would definitely recommend this hotel to other people, couples and families, and we will definitely return if our vacation destination brings us back to Puerto Vallarta. Do not believe the negative reviews from other people who seem to had been staying a different hotel instead of this one.....Room Tip: ask for any room in the 1400 section, ocean view rooms, quiet, with ocean wave sounds as they splash..... Thank you again Melia for a wonderful, memorable week! ...Sincerely David & Cathy - New York, NY .

"DO NOT GO HERE" Was mislead and lost $100 read...

When we arrived to the Melia Puerto Vallarta we were greeted after check in by the concierge Maria she showed us a map of the hotel and gave us general information. She had asked us if we had talked to anyone or scheduled any tours while we were at the airport. When we told her that we did book a tour for another hotel the next day and she asked what incentives we received and I told her we paid $100 for 2 massages and a boat trip. Maria stated that it would not be safe for us to go and that she would ask her supervisor if they could get our money back and/or schedule us for the tour of the Melia Hotel instead. She told us to meet her down in the lobby the next morning before we were scheduled to go on the tour with the other hotel. When we arrived the next morning she stated she spoke to her supervisor and that they would get the money back and/or they would offer us the same massage and tour. I asked her if she was sure and that if for any reason they could not get our money or offer us the same deal we would just go where we already paid. She assured us it would be taken care of and said “Do not go”. After our Melia tour we asked about our massages and tour and we were told that we would get a percentage off of the massages and tour. I told her that we already paid and she assured us we would not have to pay anymore money and that is when she said we need to talk to the supervisor and to come back the next day at 2pm. When we arrived the next day at 2pm the supervisor did not know what we were talking about and said we would have to talk to Maria (which I am not sure why a supervisor sends someone back to their employee) and that she would be in tomorrow at 2pm. When we arrived at 2pm the next day we were told that she had worked at 8:30 am and that she was gone for the day. I demanded to talk to the manager and was given the run around 4 more times. Being mislead on several occasions changed my view of the hotel, the staff (front desk & concierge) and ever wanting to stay there or at any Melia Hotel again. In between tracking down a manager to get what we were promised we had put up the “Do not disturb sign” and house keeping went in anyways. The next day we did it again and after paying $10 for some chocolate covered strawberries they came in and threw the strawberries away. After several attempts we were able to catch Maria and we told her if we could just get our massages we would call it even. She stated that they could do that and when we went to book the massages we were told they would only comp us one massage not two. Being so upset I just let it go swearing I would tell everyone I know of my experience. If that wasn’t bad enough on our last day there around 6am we were sound asleep and we are awoken by someone turning the door handle and as I got up someone was walking through the door. I guess they could not wait for us to get out because they booked our room to someone else while we were still there. Talk about not feeling safe. As we went to check out we ask for a manager again not thinking that he would be there since the hotel never seemed to have one on the property. We were greeted by a young man and proceeded to tell him everything that had happed and that I was planning on writing a review to let everyone know my experience at his hotel and he did not have anything to say except “Yes you should right a review”. I was so furious that I have taken time out of my day to write this review and I will be posting it on every site that I can possibly find.

Good Value for the Money

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: No free Internet
For the money this resort was good. Our room didn't smell that good and they never brought us any washcloths. The drinks were watered down and there were a ton of kids. However, the resort itself was beautiful and you pretty much can't be disappointed when the ocean is right there!
