Not good

Location: No information from anyone on where to go and what to do.
The outside facilities around the rooms were pretty, the landscaping was pretty. The beach ugly, the sand is black the beach water was lurky and dirty (brown) not appealing. The food was just disappointing. There were three restaurants - the Italian restaurant closed - while we were in the lobby waiting to go to our reservation, no one informed us. didn't get anything in return. Many other guests we some with got A La Carte Dinners (with lobster) for the cancellation - we didn't get anything. The only time we enjoyed food was breakfast (THE Omelet station) was the only thing we enjoyed and the pineapple. Food selection and restaurant VERY POOR, fruit selection POOR as well and deserts were all jello based was NOT GOOD. The entertainment staff were very friendly. Noel Garcia, Wilson, Daniel and a few others were really friendly and went out of their way to try and make it fun. Music was the same all the time too much Spanish singing- the night lady singer needs to be more open to other music - many people just want to dance and since we are all on vacation spanish music is not what we are familiar with.

Would never return or recommend

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything could be improved. The room did not feel safe at all, some tried to break into our room the 1st night. Customer Service needs to be better.
Location: The beach was nice, although the beach chairs were mostly broken and needed to be repaired. There is nothing nearby to do at all.
Our experience at this hotel was not good at all. The staff was not very friendly or helpful, and very few of them spoke English. We accidentally got locked out of our room and the staff didn't have a spare key to the door we used (we had a suite with 2 doors), so they gave us a key to other door. I told them the door had a chain on it, but they still wouldn't help, so I had to break the chain off myself to enter - which was not difficult since it only had a 1/2" screw securing it. Someone tried to break into our room at 8pm, and when we told the staff about that, they acted as though they could care less. Our TV didn't work, and we told them 3 times we needed it fixed. They said they would fix it but they never did. One of our A/C units didn't work at all, so half of our suite was very hot, and once again they would not fix that either. The food at the buffet was not very good. The hotel has 3 other restaurants, and the food was better at those, but you can only eat at those restaurants a total of 3 times, which is not advertised anywhere. The safe in the room is not free, and cost $4 a day. There is only 1 outlet in the suite. The vendors on the beach bother you non-stop trying to get you to go to their store to buy things, so you can't even enjoy relaxing on the beach because of them. For a hotel which is all-inclusive, which is really more of a motel since all the doors are on the outside, there seems to be a lot you have to pay for. The customer service was very poor.

relaxed resort

If you are looking for a resort to just relax and catch some sun, then this is the place for you. I didn't want a party resort and I'm glad that I chose this place. The evening dance crew was super fun and humble. The beach is not the best I've seen in DR but it is clean. The drinks aren't really strong so I ended up going with straight rum. The buffet is decent (you have to consider the hot weather as well) but the staff tries their very best with presentation of the food. Overall, I would definitely recommend. Only thing I didn't like was the hour commute from the airport which I failed to realize when booking.

THE PLACE WAS VERY NICE, FOR OUR FAMILY OF FOUR, THE BEACH WAS CLEAN, BUT THERE WERE NO WAVES TO BOAST ABOUT, BUT A 15 TO 20 MINUTE DRIVE THERE WAS A GREAT BEACH WE SPENT 2 DAYS GOING TO BECAUSE OF THE HUGE WAVES WE ALL HAD FUN THERE. THE FOOD WAS GOOD ALSO . THEY HAD THREE FANCY RESTURANTS, THAT WERE ENCLUDED IN OUR DEAL AND I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH HOW FANTASTIC THE FOOD WAS. WE ALL WISHED WE COULD EAT AT THEM EVERY NITE . OVER ALL WE HAD A NICE VACATION

We loved it !

Been there twice. It's a great resort for most people and for the price. Gardens are beautiful, lobby and restaurants are very nice. Buffet had good varity. Some people complain it is repetitive. Well don't take a bit of 20 different things each time. The rooms are tired and some people have had problems. We were happy, we just used our room to sleep and change. We didn't go to stay inside and watch TV. The beach is brown sand just like our beaches and in some area's they are eroding. If you want white sand with snorkeling out front, It's not the greatest although you can go on an excursion that takes you to a protected little bay and snorkel there. Some people complain of sand flees, We had no bites. Just stay off beach as it gets dark or that's when you should put on bug stuff. If you have lots of money and demand the best, go somewhere else. We found it a great value and will return

Unlikely to return

We live in the DR so we have stayed at several resorts. This is one resort that we probably wouldn't stay at again. It is located 2.5 hours drive from Santo Domingo and is located on the north shore and the beaches are not the nicest. If you want white sand, Punta Cana is by far a better place. The hotel is older and needs to be upgraded. Our first room smelled like a dirty old ash tray and the A/C didn't work. The second day we were put on the room change list. At 6pm they gave me the keys to the new room. It was occupied. By 9pm we were finally moving into our new room. Smelled better, A/C worked, TV was inoperative. Called front desk and 24 hours later had a tv that worked. It rained the whole time that we were there. The hotel can't control that but the flooded could be. Several rooms on the first floor were submerged in 8-10 inches of water, public bathrooms were in 6-8 inches of water, as well as other public areas. This hotel is probably closer to a 2.5- 2.75 stars. It was probably a very nice place 20 years ago. If you are looking for upscale, Punta Cana is the place to be. On a side note, the DR receives a lot of Europeans, it appears that 85% of them smoke all of the time so it's hard to find smoke free areas even in out door places.

Great Vacation!

This vacation was a great value. The resort was nice, very clean. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The drinks were good, and the food was pretty good as well. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The bugs only bothered us in the early morning and at night, and only if you were standing still on the beach. Otherwise, we had no problems. Our only regret was not staying longer!

BUGS WERE TERRIBLE

This was our 4th time to this resort, and although the resort and beach are beautiful, we will not return. The fleas this year were the worst I have ever seen. Normally they are just a problem when you are actually at the beach, but this time they were everywhere. They were crawling on us when we were sitting in the lobby, when we were at the casino, and the worst part was, they were in our bed!!! No amount of bug spray would keep them away! The morning we left, I counted my flea bites....I had seventy!! I know this can be a problem anywhere in Puerta Plata, but we spoke with other passengers on our way home, and they weren't bothered, so obviously other resorts are spraying or fumigating.
