Definitely one of the older Westin’s, past its prime. The rooms were big, staff quite helpful. They could not provide a handicap room, but we made do. The elevators are terrible, however. Assigned elevator after you select floor. If it’s full, etc. out of luck, start over. If attending convention Y center, quite convenient.

Location, location,location.

Pros: I thought the lobby looked very 21st century and the open space felt warm. The elevators operated with a touchscreen in lobby, very cutting edge.
Cons: The in-room coffee was substandard and quite cheap-looking. I did expect more amenities.
Location: The location is very close to every thing Pittsburgh has to offer downtown.
I chose the Westin because of it's location, near the Amtrak station. My train was to come in very late and the short walking distance was the selling point for me.

The Westin did not disappoint. Wonderful Stay!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet
I had never been to Pittsburgh before. My daughter was there for a dance audition at Point Park University. Very unsure of what to do or where to go. The Westin did a wonderful job to direct us where to go and where to eat. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly. We really appreciated being able to print our boarding passes at no cost. All hotel staff that we came in contact with were extremely friendly.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
When we reported a problem with our room, management was so insensitive to correcting our problem, it was sad. This is supposedly a four star property? Avoid this property since there are so many other choices at far less money.

Could Be Better For It's Brand

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: needs some "sprucing up"
I was a little surprised when I arrived at this hotel. I was expecting it to be a little more high-end since it carried the "The Westin" brand, but this hotel could use some sprucing up a little. Westins are usually higher end with a more modern decor in a tasteful way. The rooms, amenities and common areas feels like they were stuck in the late-90s. The rooms are a little outdated with wall to wall carpet that seems a bit dirty. We were a group of six visiting PA for the The Falling Water Tour, so we decided to spend two nights at The Westin. Two of my buddies and I stayed in a business suite which had two double-beds and one pull-out sofa over in the other end of the room. The room was a spacious size (approx. 700+ sq. ft.). When I called up the concierge to ask for an extra set of sheets/duvet/comforter so my buddy can sleep on the pull-out, they brought us this raggedy looking "sheet" (not a comforter or duvet) and it had disgusting stains all over it that was visible in every possible way. The wifi access was complimentary since we were in a business suite, so that's a plus. Breakfast buffet at the restaurant is average, but very well priced. Since this hotel was a fish market at one point, the original seafood restaurant in the lobby remained and became their signature restaurant/bar. However, every time we step foot into that restaurant regardless of what time of the day or night it is, there is always a foul stench of raw fish and it's far from pleasant. It's enough to make anyone to turn around and walk out of the place. The snack and gift shop in the lobby is super expensive. A bottle of Evian water costs $7, what rip off! Cost of parking is not too bad, $20 for self-parking, $22 for valet which is average for most downtown areas. Obviously, spending the $2 extra to go with valet parking is a no brainer. This hotel is in situated in a very convenient location, which is right in the heart of Downtown Pittsburg. It's very close to many restaurants and easy walk to museums and other site seeing activities. Being that this is the only nice looking hotel in the business convention center, I had higher expectations, especially for a Westin establishment. This hotel can certainly use additional "sprucing up", if they want to keep up with the other Westin establishments.
