Best thing is the restaurant

If you book a room, don't let them put you in 204. The bed was ok but the room was near stairway and noisy. The claw foot tub was cool but there was no way us seniors could get in for a shower. Period furniture was interesting. Food at the cellar tavern was very good. Another time we'll just eat there and skip the hotel stay.

Thank you for your review! We appreciate all guest feedback to improve guest satisfaction as a whole. Part of our next phase of renovations will be removing the claw foot tubs. In previous years, we have had a number of them but for your exact reasoning, we have opted to eliminate them entirely. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed other aspects of your stay and should you be looking for accommodations at a later time, we hope that you will stay with us. We would be more than happy, based on availability if we still have a claw foot tub, to ensure that your room is without one.

Wonderful, historic hotel!

I loved all the wood and high ceilings. The room was a little small, but comfortable. The bathroom was small and was open to the rest of the room by way of pass through windows. There were several restaurants in the hotel in addition to others close by. We ate in the "Tavern" restaurant which had excellent food and a very reasonable breakfast menu. The area around the hotel had shops and galleries that we were sorry we didn't have time to explore. We will definitely be returning.

Very nice accommodations in an historic old hotel right in the middle of town.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
I enjoyed being at this hotel-comfortable room, nicely decorated and immaculately clean. They were a little short-staffed at the desk but very friendly.

We were welcomed as if we were arriving at home.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
The Archer House was a good convenient place for us to stay during our visit at St. Olaf College. We liked the at-home comforts. It was fun to stay in an antiquated building and absorb the ambience of the town.

A nice stay in small town Minnesota

The hotel is very nice the staff is very good and very helpful they practically planned my stay when my son was looking at Carleton. The Indian restaurant, Chapati's, in the Archer House is fabulous and the Tavern, also in the hotel, serves a great breakfast there is also a great little coffe shop in the hotel, Bittersweet. I made the mistake and took a cab from the airport to Northfield and it cost me $$$ dollars, when I got to the hotel the manager told me about this great shuttle service called EcoTrans, very eco friendly they use Prius's and at half the cost, WOW!!! My stay in Northfield was a great one thanks to the great staff, clean rooms and great people of Minnesota, will definately be staying at the Archer House if my son goes to Carleton.
