I enjoy older hotels when they're well maintained and cared for. They have great history and architectural and interior features that remind you of the time they were originally installed. In contrast, The Washington Inn feels dated, and musty. Everything looks worn and a bit grimy. My sink was in the bedroom, and the bathroom itself included a shower that looked like something from a camping lodge. The furniture was mismatched and a mash-up of styles. My chain lock was broken, and so I put a chair in front of the door. This was in the king suite I was upgraded to. Also the wifi was very weak so I ended up using a lot of data. The one staff member I spoke with to check in was very nice, and the the hotel is located in a great part of town -- very walkable. But the pricing is very much a get what you pay for situation.

Just okay.

The carpet was soiled. It needed a fresher appearance.

oldie but goodie

Pros: Very convenient. Near buses and BART. Easy access to Berkeley and SF .....even to SFO. No extras means I am NOT paying for facilities I do not use.
Cons: Continental breakfast. Plain yogurt and some fruit would provide a healthier option for guests without fridge or microwave.
Location: Oakland museum FRIDAYS, food trucks offer great variety of foods and live music in a relaxed setting. Around the corner from hotel re many restaurant
Travelocity booked air travel; I received notice of discounted KING SUITE at hotel ( I had reserved room earlier) for considerable savings. My adult daughter had shared a King size bed before and having a separate room was great! Our room was very clean. A great stay. Microwave, fridge and coffee pot in the room allowed us to supplement the continental breakfast with fruit or anything else. I heard others complain about single room size or cleanliness; I can only say our room exceeded our expectations. I would stay again and request a king suite.

Good for the price.

The 100 year old hotel was quaint and charming. But the front desk attendant was not friendly and don't expect too much from the basic continental breakfast. Also, small things like laundry bags, cream cheese for a bagel etc weren't available. Not a terrible experience but not the best either.

Old hotel with a bad staff

No onsite parking had to.park at the Marriott and walk back to the hotel Rude desk personel at check in and tacky bar in the lobby of this old hotel. Sink is in the room as the bathroom was to old to have a sink. This is a place.to stay if there is nothing else available. They need to replace the young man at check in Also the convention center is across the street and the semi trucks started lining and idling at 5 am right below our 2nd floor room on a Saturday morning to unload at the convention center . I would never go back

Needs updating but trying hard.

I'm fine with this not being a corporate bland hotel at $100 more such as the marriotts across the street. I think they are trying hard with what they have. But for my not great back and neck, the bed was not very comfortable and the pillows very flat. Rooms were very clean and I appreciated the breakfast arrangements. Carpeting in lobby needs replacement or at least cleaning.

Hotel was right for the price.

Pros: price
Cons: Hotel needs new beds, not comfortable. Basic breakfast- coffee was like water!
Old hotel, clean room. I was traveling alone for business. Room is tiny, was ok for one overnight and a shower.
