Good room at a decent price

Pros: Cleanliness of room, proximity to Emeryville, Oakland, and San Francisco
Location: Close to Emeryville (shopping and dining), Oakland, and San Francisco.
I've stayed at the Extended Stay America before, but this last time was about the best experience I've had there. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. I have no complaints about the room or facilities at all. The rooms are pricey, but the Travelocity rate made the difference. :) I would consider staying here again, provided I can get a good rate.

It could be better.

Pros: ...
Cons: Please see my comments above.
Location: Near Berkeley - location-wise.
Check-in: We arrived past midnight due to airline delay. It took 15 min to get someone to respond and check-in. The door to lobby was locked - understandably. But the contact via hotel phone within the double door can use a better signage/instruction. It was not clear on the correct bottom needed to ring the front desk. Lobby: There were visible loose trash in the elevator and the same trash were there when we checked out in the morning. Room: it may be time to upgrade the furniture. They have quite a bit of scratch marks on them and they have aged noticeably. AC, when working, does emit smoky smell. Bathroom shower curtain holder is shaky with visible damage on one end of the holding rod to the drywall. Room rate: The daily rate was about $150 range and I was expecting Courtyard experience. This may be due to the location - near Berkeley. Overall: Exterior of the hotel is visibly pleasant but interior can use many improvements.

Nice room at a great price!

Pros: I liked it's location, cleanliness and comfort of the room, and the great price.
Cons: The phone and air conditioning should be operational at all times.
This is my second stay at this hotel, in a relatively short time period. This time, I wasn't upgraded to a nicer room but the room we had was nice, clean, and comfortable. The phone didn't work and we had problems with the air conditioning someone at the front desk helped us sort out. Overall, I'm very pleased with my stay at this hotel and will consider staying here again.

Awesome room, free upgrade!

Pros: Location, cleanliness of room, size of room, friendliness of staff, working shower
Cons: The cost of the rooms are overpriced, but all hotels in the S.F. Bay Area are overpriced these days.
Location: Not too far from the freeways, the Bay Bridge, and the Bay Street urban village (shopping, restaurants, movie theater). Easy access to San Francisco.
I've stayed at this hotel before, but my last stay has been my absolute best stay. The staff was friendly and courteous and best of all, I was upgraded to a larger suite at no additional cost! The bed was very comfortable, the suite was huge, and the shower worked perfectly. Given past experiences here, I was looking for other hotels in the area but this last experience has restored my interest in staying here again.

Good place to stay in Emeryville

Pros: The parking, room cleanliness, desk clerk.
Cons: The shower knob came off but I easily put it back on.
Location: Close to Bay Bridge, if going to San Francisco. Short drive/long walk to main shopping area in Emeryville.
What I like best about this hotel is the parking. There's PLENTY of it and it's free of charge. :) The room was in good condition and the bed was ok, but nothing noteworthy. The desk clerk was friendly and checked me in quickly. Overall, the experience was a good one and I'll probably stay here again.

Disappointed - Incorrect Room Type

Pros: Parking lot was spacious.
Cons: Service. Seemed to be short staff. Receptionists should never indicate they are alone.
Location: Many common stores to shop at and restaurants to dine at.
I had reserved online a non-smoking room (with 2 queen beds) which was noted on my email confirmation, but when I arrived with my family we were placed in a smoking room - the whole floor was for smokers. The receptionist stated "it came in as smoking".The only option she proposed was a 1 king bed non-smoking room. We needed 2 beds. It was not acceptable for 3 adults to sleep on one bed. The receptionist when we checked in was dull, spoke to fast - seemed to be in a hurry. The next morning another receptionist was there but she was too busy to refill the coffee pot or put out another creamer due to it not functioning properly. Would appreciate Customer Service to contact me to compensate me for the room not being a non-smoking room. Perhaps a free stay in a non-smoking room. It's not only a health issue, but for the amount we paid the problem we experienced should be remedied.

I would highly recommend!

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, close shopping, nice staff, kitchenette
Cons: no pool, no exercise facility
At first, I was a little nervous about booking based on other reviews. I ended up booking mainly because it offered a kitchenette in the room which was going to be very helpful for my 8 night stay. This hotel ended up being great! When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We got into our rooms and I was pleasantly suprised at the updates and how roomy it was. A large flat screen, a good view out the window, and the great kitchenette that I was expecting. All dishes were provided. Throughout our week, the staff continued to be very nice and welcoming, even when I accidently set off the fire alarm while cooking (oops). :) Breakfast offered was basic: muffins, fruit, oatmeal, granola bars. But that is to be expected since they give you an entire kitchen to cook. The only thing that disappointed me is that there is no pool or exercise facililty. The area that this hotel is located in is a very new shopping center. It is next door to Best Buy, Target, and Panera Bread. About a mile away is a huge movie theater and an outside shopping mall with restauarants. It was enjoyable to visit that at night after all our activities. Highly recommend!! And, its not far off the freeway.

Less Than Totally Satisfactory

Beginning with the first of our four-day stay, we requested that the seriously sluggish outflow of bathroom sink water be fixed. It never was. We were told that the maintenance man went home sick over the weekend, and apparently there was no one to do maintenance work in his absence; nor was anyone called in. Likewise, we requested a change in mattresses because ours was overly soft, causing us to embrace in the middle of the bed far longer than planned!! LIKE ALL NIGHT. Sleep was not restful, nor adequate. Would we stay there again or recommend this hotel to others? NO.

You have to be desperate to stay here

Hotel looked okay from the street, but once inside, things began to fall apart. We had reserved a non-smoking room, and were first assigned a room that was already occupied, then we were given a smoking room that reeked of odors, finally, after about 45 minutes, we were finally assigned to a non-smoking room. The room was dirty (hair in the bed, and around the toilet), obviously hadn't been cleaned after the last patron left it. Every morning, we got a knock on the door to be faced with someone with a clipboard asking if we were checking out that day. Not only did one person come with a clipboard, but within 15 minutes, we got another knock and another person with a clipboard asked us the same question about checking out. This was all before 10am. Seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at this place. Also seems that if they would just check their paper work, they would know when we were checking out. I am giving this place a terrible rating in all categories.

The Worst Place Yet

I couldn't imagined staying at a worse place that Extended Stay America. Not only did I get the wrong rooms (smoking), but when I asked for a change, I was treated as if I was responsible for their mistake. No toilet paper in the bathroom, missing power buttons on the TV sets (also missing TV remote controls), cigarrete buts under my bed (and the smoking stench that filled the rooms!) are some of the issues I had to deal with. Not to mention that the place itself is hard to find if you are not familiar with the freeway system around this industrial neighborhood. Although a security guard is present, my car was vandalized and items stolem from me. When I reported the incident to the front desk, I was told the Oakland Police doesn't respond to these trivial incidents. I would stay in my car if I had the choice again.
