"The Royal York is a beautiful hotel - real old-school luxe - in a fabulous location if you want to be close to Toronto's main tourist attractions (CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Aquarium etc.) There was some construction work happening while we were there but we didn't really notice it while staying there.
It is opposite Union Street Station too which we found useful to access the direct train to Pearson Airport on our way home. We were able to leave luggage at the hotel after check out so another bonus.
There was a long queue at check in at 4pm but it did move pretty swiftly and the receptionist at check-in was very thorough and informative, so worth the wait. The rooms are lovely, although small and probably needing a bit of a refresh. They were very clean and well-equipped though, with a Nespresso machine, kettle and mugs and glasses. USB ports would have been welcomed as there were only plug points.
We used the pool and whirlpool while there and it was a decent size - got a little busy at times but not overwhelmingly so and we got plenty of swimming in. The gym has been recently refreshed and looked top notch. Just didn't have time to use it. Same for the Library Bar - would have loved to visit but just ran out of time. Would definitely recommend for a weekend stay."
