I wondered why it had a 2.5 rating. When I arrived in my room, I understood the rating. The hallways were a bit creepy and the original doors from the early 1900’s were on top of the room door. They were in sad shape and needed paint. Our room number was filled in with sharpie. The floor in our room had not been vacuumed as there were bits of Nerds candy by the bed. On the positive side, I loved the kiosk check in, the hotel will hold your luggage for the day for $5 per bag, and it’s a busy, hopping place in a good location.

Check took forever. The hotel did not clean my room all 3 nights I stayed and asked me to put my garbage outside the door. I had to bargain to at least get fresh towels. Will not stay here again. Yes is it close to Madison Square Garden but the hotel rooms are filthy, bathroom had hair on the walls. Overall cleanliness was terrible.

What a dump!

Peeling paint, rusted door frames, missing grout, gouges in the woodwork.....this place looks like it needed a major renovation 20 years ago and is still waiting. Literally the most run down hotel I've ever stayed in.

The Penn is an old worn out hotel, that's the reality. But for the price, in NYC, it's great. And if you're traveling with a pet, even better. Their housekeeping is erratic at best, and the place is huge, so you can almost get lost. Some of the employees are rude, some either don't speak English or pretend not to, but you're not paying hundreds of dollars per night. Your getting what you pay for, at NYC prices. I'd like better service, but that costs money. I paid for an upgraded room, but for a smaller space and inadequate furnishings.

Hotel Penn's proximity to Penn Station, MSG*****

Pros: Staff very helpful and location.
Cons: coffee maker and fridge in room
Location: Excellent for MSG events.
It was suitable for the 3 of us, would have been nicer if there was a coffee maker and a fridge in the room, all available in the lobby. Plenty of hot water and towels.

The room clenliness was terrible. My room was a suite with a sofa bed and we had to ask for another bed because the sofa bed did not have mattress. The hotel staff presented a very poor attitude for helping us in different situations that we had. In general the hotel staff was hostile.
