Affordable Lower East Side Location

Pros: I loved having fresh sheets/towels daily, and beds were comfortable for a hostel situation. Bathroom was nice and clean and temperature was good.
Cons: Room was super cramped and there were no in-room lockers for storage, plus not enough conveniently located plug-ins for everyone's tech.
Location: Literally right across the street from the Tenement museum. But definitely a trek to go do other thing in Manhattan
For an inexpensive Manhattan accommodation, this wasn't bad. I stayed in a 6 bed, all female room. After having been in dorm-style rooms, I did really appreciate having an ensuite bathroom. However, the room was very cramped with 6 beds wedged in, and my roommates didn't have any respect for others in the room. One woman was using a computer without headphones until about 1 o'clock in the morning... Also no locked luggage storage, just place to put it in the basement.

Good location for subway, walkable restaurants,.

I chose the hotel to be close to my granddaughters apartment and office and was pleasantly surprised by my room. I would stay there again.

Everything we hoped it would be

Pros: Close restaurants, little wine reception in the afternoon
The intimate hotel was everything we hoped it would be. Very friendly employees from those that greeted you to those that cleaned your rooms. The rooms were cozy and the bathrooms were tiny but it was still comfortable. The only disappointment was with the first evening when we asked for a recommendation to a restaurant. It was clear the receptionist had a relationship with the restaurant she sent us to. It was not what we wanted but on the walk home we found a great restaurant and stopped to have a second dinner. Depending on where you want to visit, it is a great location and gives you plenty of walking opportunities.

don't stay for such a high rate

This hotel is in Chinatown, not that safe for travelers. THe hotel is very far away of mid town, Manhattan, etc. You would have to pay aroung $* dollars per ride everytime you want to go to TIme Square of Fifth avenue. No stores or places around available for shopping, even for essential everyday staff. Service sucks! No professional at all. The smell on the hotel is like being on an old building. Bad night of sleep, the noise is so strong that you can feel the cars passing through your window. The worse bed I have sleep in years, plus the noise everytime you tourn can drive anybody crazy. It is worth it a $*/night but I paid $*/night, more expensive than even boutique hotels in the middle of Manhattan. I wish I could have my money back, I feel stolen.

Disappointing Front Desk

We've stayed at this hotel before. We've written a positive review of them before as well. We've even had our staff stay at this hotel a couple times before. Obviously, we've had good experiences...until this last time. The front desk experience we dealt with, this most recent visit, was just unprofessional. The attention to detail that we had assumed this hotel had kept consistent - based upon our first visit here about 2-3 years ago - is lacking today. It's really a shame because we loved this place, but will no longer visit. I would recommend the management of the Blue Moon to reinforce the fact that the person at the front is the first and last impression that a phone caller and an in-person experience have and that the individual working that post should be above-and-beyond in their levels of customer service. Overall, great boutique hotel with loads of charm. Unfortunately, customer service that has lost its charm.

Home away from home

Stayed here with my adult daughter on our annual trip to NYC. We have stayed at many hotels at differing price points in the W. Village, E. Village and Lower East Side. This is by far the most comfortable hotel, in the best neighborhood and for a great price. Immaculate and homey, the owners and staff treat you as guests in their home and are on the lookout to make your stay more perfect at every opportunity. As a NYC history buff, this was a chance to live in history....magnificently and lovingly rehabbed up with every modern convenience. Directly across from the Tenement museum, Blue Moon is a former tenement building restored with original materials found on site when the building/hotel was frozen in time. Convenient to Museums, Chinatown, Little Italy and great shopping. Safe neighborhood and breakfast included make this hotel a serious keeper.

Outstanding stay

We stayed her for five days in October. As soon as we arrived, we were treated great. We were greeted by Antonella who is a fabulous person. Our room was clean and all the amenities were sufficient. Antonella recommended a fabulous restaurant (TRE) that was true to her word. We met the owner a couple of times who always seemed concerned about our stay. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to any New York City traveler.

Great Hotel!!!!

Staying at the Blue Moon Hotel was like travelling back in time. The hotel was beautifully decorated, chic and sophisticated. Everything was immaculate and smelled amazing, right down to the linens on the bed. The staff was very welcoming and personable and was constantly trying to make sure that our stay was going well. The Blue Moon is tucked into a side street of Manhattan, away from the craziness of the city, but in walking distance to it all. It was the most inviting hotel at which I've ever stayed. I didn't want to leave when our stay was over!

Great rehabbed place with vintage charm

This building is amazing and so wonderfully rehabbed. Most vintage spaces when they say "charm", they mean dirty and cramped. Blue Moon is SUPER clean and beautiful and the best NYC hotel experience I've ever had. And, when I say "charm", I mean charm. I've stayed at the very chic 60Thompson and many other big names while in NYC, but the Blue Moon made me feel right at home. We travel to nyc quite often on business and will try to stay at Blue Moon as much as we can. There is a great independent movie house within walking distance - great shopping bargains as well. The lobby of the hotel always smelled like white lillies. Overall, a GREAT place I would recommend to anyone who wants to go to the big NYC, but doesn't want to deal with the norm NYC crap. Thanks Blue Moon!

Rude Management

Hotel did not meet expectations upon arrival--poor location and rooms not as advertised. Voiced displeasure with management, who was not accomodating. Owner was rude remainder of trip. Checked out early. Hotel would not honor its own cancellation policy.
