Don't Stay Here!

My husband and I stayed at Carlyle for four nights in February. There is a tiny strip of public beach right across a busy road from the resort where the native folks come to party all night. The noise of honking cars, yelling, and other disturbances goes on all night into early morning. The room was shabby and had not been updated for many years. The bathroom was tiny and the rugs had stains on them. The good part of the trip was getting out of there and taking the shuttle to Montego Bay Sandals and Royale, only a five minute shuttle bus away. I would highly recommend you stay at one of these instead of Carlyle. Oh, and as soon as you do get there make reservations for the restaurants and the sunset sail tour as they fill up quickly.

Nice, but noisy

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
Our first trip to Jamaica. Hotel is very close to airport, ~10 mins ride. Rooms are decent, not much needed for tropical vacation. Bed is nice and big, shower, conditioner. Hotel's pool is ok with whirlpool, you can run across and take a deep in the ocean. "Beach" is a joke, maybe 40 feet and public, laying would feel like doing it on the Times Square. We went to the Montego Bay for real beach, bus schedule is very reliable. First bus goes at 8:30, not 9:30. We even had breakfast at MB, buffet there is much bigger. As many people say - the road along the hotel is very noisy. Locals use cars' horn all the time, plus every 20 min car with very loud music from 6 AM till 1 AM. Staff is very friendly, a loooot of attention, hugs and high five all the time :) Not sure if we would repeat this experience.

Sandals Inn stay in 08

My husband and i spnt our 1 year Anniversary at the Sandals Inn and we would definitely do it again. we had access to the other Sandals propertys but the thrill of the old jamaican feel at a resort thats not as dainty made our stay even more enjoyable. we relaxed and ordered room service until lunch and around 4/5pm we would head over to the Sandals Mobay to enjoy a night filled with entertainment. I have traveled across the world but this resort stood out most of all. i will choose to stay here again even though the Sandals Mobay has a better look...I enjoyed the shuttle trips provided....The staff was excellent!!!!

Would go again

My first trip to Jamaica and I was pretty nervous about staying at the Carlyle. The hotel was nice we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff was cool and the activities were fun. It was a laid back vacation for me, there was some construction during the day, but that was fine, who sleeps the day away in your room anyway. The beach outside is a public one so be prepared for vendors approaching you to buy stuff...If your firm or act like you don't speak English your good, lol. We did go to the other resorts where we slept the day away on the beach (still have tan lines), drank like a fish and went on tours. Again the staff is very friendly, already planning my trip back.

Great trip

We stayed at the Sandals Carlyle (the inn as everyone refers to it) for 3 nights 4 days. I read the reviews at the airport and was actually a bit nervous. Everyone said how loud it was and locals were terrible. Yea it was a bit loud our first night and 3rd, but your not staying at a Sandals compound, your basically staying in the town, so you do get noise. But honestly we had a blast and would totally go again. My husband and I also liked not being in the compound, because you could actually take a walk and adventure off to a store or a local bar. The food: The jerk chicken at the hotel was AMAZING, I think we had it ten times in our short stay, you have to get it from the daytime cook at the grill, to die for. Most of the rest of the time we were at Montego Bay, it is a huge plus you can go to the other 2 resorts. We did all our snorkeling, and scuba diving there. I also got a back massage/mini facial there, extra money but worth it. We ate at most of the restaurants there and were pretty disappointed, except for the Jamacian restaurant, no reservations but dress nice, it was really really good. We didn't take any of the excursions, they seemed like fun but the resort had enough to offer for the short period of time we were there. Our point of this trip was to relax, unwind, and recharge, and we did all that and more. So to wrap up, we will be returning and had a great time, noise and all.

Advertisment desnt jutify

Stayed there from September 24-28. The air condition makes the hallways a living hell it is so hot and noisy. The bathroom is old, breakfast is good but dinner is gourmet - why not serve jamaican food. the staff - not management makes you feel like you are with family, so friendly and warm esp Paul - you must check him out. The grounds are clean. Good thing you have access to the other Sandals which have beaches and more relaxing. Sandals Inn is for old people or laid back people no entertainment. no beach ether - public beach across the street

Most Relaxing Vacation Ever!

The Inn is very old. Its charm is that the furniture is old but yet feels so confortable. No real beach to speak of; but jump on the shuttle and you are at the other Sandals resorts in minutes. Our staff made us feel like we arrived home and in a few days we knew most of the guests' and staff's names. Want to relax.....stay at the Inn. We will be back. One problem, our plane didnt leave till 4 pm and they had a shuttle at 11:30 ;the airport is less than 7 minutes away;We got a little aggitated and took the noon shuttle. Still the Spirit counter didnt open until 1 and the airport has 6 seats in the waiting area. Several other couples complained about that customer service seems to have stopped at check out. But plan ahead, get late check out, take a taxi (now we know) and you can swim and still eat till its time to go, which you wont want to do. Roxanne & Jerry

Weekend Gateway

Staying at Sandals Inn was the best choice I could had made. Other big hotels are far from everything and people can only stay and do things at the hotel. Sandals Inn is located next to shops and downtown. There are always taxis available that can take you where you want to go. The hotel also has shuttles that take you to the other Sandals Inn where you can enjoy the private beach and everything else. The staff was the best...I have never had so much attention like this trip. Everybody was always smiling and making sure you were having a good time. I recomend the tours because you get to see what Jamaica has for tourists. The hotel is also close to Margaritaville and the airport. You'll enjoy free beer at the airport and that is how the rest of the trip will be. Thank you to all the staff. It was a really nice weekend gateway. I loved it!

Little boat, Big Engine

This is not a huge property by any means, but it is huge in the service and friendliness department. The GM knew our names by day 3, constantly asked how things were, and if they could do anything better. Although this hotel is literally right next to the main drag in MoBay, and yes it can be noisy, the ease of transfer from Sandal's to Sandal's makes it much better. Something is not clear on the Sandal's website is how the shuttles are run, they are NOT third party shuttles and therefore do NOT require tipping, which is a great thing. You can almost literally set your watch to the shuttles too. The beach across the street is probably the nicest one in MoBay, but it is public, so you do have locals using it and trying to sell you fruit and "other" things that are grown. They don't harass you too much though, just say "No thanks" and they leave you alone. At this resort they constantly have activities going on hence the comment big engine. If you choose a more relaxed environment, take the transfer to another resort, just come back here to sleep. We would suggest ear plugs if you are a light sleeper just due to the street noise. Great time overall and the food was very impressive!

Great Staff!

We decided on the Sandals Inn after many nights of researching every resort in Jamaica on this site. We wanted something low key and relaxing and that is what we found. The food was good, the room comfortable, and a staff that made you feel like family. We were concerned at first when we arrived and found the pictures of the city around the resort where not accurate any longer. However once inside everything was wonderfull. Here are a few tips .......1)They want a imprint of a major credit card when you get there only for incidentals....Debit/bank cards dont seem to work. We only had the bank card so we had to pay with cash and it took a bit longer. So leave a deposit at the front desk for them to subtract your gift shop purchases from......2)Plan to go on some day trips. Dunns River Falls was the most memorable day the whole time there. Side note when taking personal items, the drivers are good and lock the van while gone. If you decide to take those items with you instead make sure they are in a zipper pocket or the Falls will keep them....3)Get up early and spend a day or two at the other 2 Sandals in Montego. They have the water sports and more food selections. Tokoyo Joes and OK Corral were fabulous. Have fun, we did and can't wait to go back.
