We were never advised that the hotel was under construction and the pool and hottub were closed. At checkout we were told that they had a reciprocal agreement with a nearby hotel even at check in we were not given that info.

It gets you on the water but not 4 or 5 star resort. Would have been cool if they let you know the facility was under major construction. We made the best of it. Restaurant and bar are spot on. We had a couple of drinks the first night in the bar and breakfast down stairs on our way out. Location is great away from the big crowds but everything is walking distance. Booked it as we were driving down south for a couple of days. We would stay again once construction is done.

La Jolla Shores was the best place to stay and enjoy the beach without crowds, sand or carrying a bunch of stuff to the beach. Open your patio door and you are there. Beach and waves in front of you. Room is spotless, crisp sheets, supportive mattress. Best customer service I’ve ever experienced before, during and after leaving the property. Breakfast on the beach - the best French toast of my life - was like a dream. There is a reason this place has remained as a staple for well heeled travelers. It is simply the best.

Half of the property is under complete renovation. One of the days, a jackhammer ran for 5 straight hours. You couldn't escape the sound anywhere on the property including the entire adjacent beach area.
