Wonderful family home

We just wrapped up five unforgettable days at Hale Luana, and I honestly don’t have enough words to describe how special it was. This home was everything I had dreamed of and more—a true slice of paradise. From the moment we arrived, we felt at peace. Tucked into lush greenery with breathtaking ocean views, it was the perfect setting for our family to gather, relax, and celebrate our daughter’s wedding. Every detail of the home made it feel warm, welcoming, and intentionally designed for families to make lasting memories. The spacious layout, the incredible lanai, the cozy bedrooms—it all felt like home, but better. Hale Luana truly lives up to its name, offering a heavenly place to connect, unwind, and soak in the beauty of Hawaii. There was such a feeling of peace here. Thank you for sharing this beautiful space with us!

What a Beautiful Home/Property

This is an amazing place to stay. It is a quiet neighborhood. The house has everything you need plus some! Very spacious, it even has a sitting area to chat or just pick up one of the many books provided. We enjoyed the Large Lanai every morning & evening, taking in the views, and the beautiful music of nature. If we had a question or needed anything, James was there- he's great! All we can say is, we loved the place and wish we could have stayed longer. Would we go back? Absolutely!!! Thanks again to the owner for sharing your beautiful home!

14 days in Paradise!

We wanted to get away from the harsh Boston winter and thought of trying something different as it was our first visit to Big Island. This house did not disappoint, pictures in the listing did not do it justice. The house is beautiful! Clean and well stocked with every amenity you can imagine. The open plan living room/dining area is furnished with high end teak furniture, modern and clutter free. The kitchen looked like it was from a magazine. The expansive Lanai with ocean views stretched across the width of the house. Each of the end master bedrooms had french doors opening to the lanai, We slept with the doors open all night, lulled by the sound of ocean waves. It was the best nights’ sleep ever! We woke to the crows of roosters and the moos of cows. The pantry was well stocked with spices and basics, anything else needed was a short drive to Foodland in the next town of Waimea. We were happy that James, the host and caretaker was a text away. He lives in the unit below and whenever we needed anything he would appear with it. He is a delight to talk to, very knowledgeable about the area. We did day trips to Volcano Park, Waipio Valley, had a fancy dinner at Merriman’s, Hawaiian cowboy BBQ at Fish and Hog and malasadas at Tex-Drivein. The historic town of Honokaa is 10 minutes away, we loved the little museum. Farmers’ markets and Wednesdays and Saturdays are a must see. All in all the house is a way to experience true Hawaii. We are making plans to come back next winter.

Not private!!!! Single home double level, renters live down below. Fridge didn’t work stove didn’t work. Dryer didn’t work as full of bug infestation as any place on the island. Was a nice place but has totally been let go. Definitely not what’s advertised

Honoka’a's Best!

My three adult children, spouses, and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at this house. It was exactly as described: isolated, welcoming, relaxing. The large lanai was ideal for sipping morning coffee while watching the ocean. We enjoyed meals and playing cards at the large dining table. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was spacious, and everything was very clean. Bring earplugs as the roosters and cows are noisy before 5 AM. There is no ceiling fan in Bedroom #4.

We had a wonderful stay at Hale Luana. It was restful & generally quiet. That was much appreciated. The house was well-equipped and all on one level. The kitchen was amazing. The Lani and view are amazing. Every room just called for you to spend time there. A sitting area just off the entrance became my wife's favorite location for her craft work. I used one end of the dinning table to set up my laptop and the files I brought to work on. The view out to the ocean will capture you attention. We watched three whales linger in the area and performed their courtship frolic. You are an hour's drive away from Akaka Falls and two world-class botanical gardens. In the other direction you have the isolated Waipio Valley. Having James & Louise nearby available for questions or assistance is a big plus for this property. If you have an issue or need it gets address promptly. When we return to this corner of Hawaii we intend to stay here again.

Delightful

Our experience at Hale Luna was truly delightful. The house offered ample space, a breathtaking view, a peaceful neighborhood, and was equipped with everything necessary for our comfort. The hosts went above and beyond, regularly checking in on us to ensure our needs were met and providing valuable recommendations for local attractions and dining options. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

Beautiful House

The house is beautiful and does not lack in amenities. The kitchen is well stocked and provides any tool you may desire. The library is stocked with a great variety of books and games which was a pleasure to puruse. The abundant nature sounds are intriguing yet the house offers enough of a barrier to sleep soundly. The bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the cleanliness was disappointing. The house looks/is a bit neglected with many small maintenance items needing attention. When I pointed out the concern about the cleanliness to the caretaker she was more than helpful and recalled the cleaner. Also some of the maintenance items were addressed. She also assured me that the stained bedroom carpet was just waiting the arrival of the new carpets and will be replaced. The property is lovely however has been left to go wild as the grass was uncut and the yard around the hot tub is un-kept. With all this said the house ticked all the boxes for a quiet and natural Hawaiian vacation.

A true "out of the way" gem on the Big Island

I have been to Hawaii over 60 times and I wanted to stay away from it all and have a different Big Island experience and this lovely home did not disappoint. This house was one of the most well stocked VRBO's I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in countless. The location was isolated and perfect with a beautiful lanai to take it all in. Our host could not have been more communicative and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly special Hawaiian paradise location away from the hustle and bustle and yet close to Waimea, Waipio and Hilo. 5 stars all around.

Unique Big Island location

Paauhaua is a small community between Wiamea and Hilo (40 miles) The property has fabulous ocean views, but no access. You will be driving to the island's attractions be it volcano, waterfall or beach. Very peaceful with nature all around, fresh ocean breezes and ample lanai make outdoor dining a pleasure. Well-appointed kitchen in open floor plan with dining and living area. Master suite and additional bedroom suite open onto the ocean facing lanai. Sufficient room for our six adults to stretch out and have privacy.
