Terrible Experience – Do Not Recommend My stay at The Island Resort in Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Florida was a horrible experience from start to finish. I would never stay here again and absolutely do not recommend this property. First off, the cleanliness was unacceptable. The shower floor had visible dirt, grime, and what appeared to be mold buildup. The showerhead was covered in rust spots, and the white towels had leftover makeup stains — clearly not properly cleaned. The most frustrating part of the stay was getting in and out of our room. The key system operates using a wristband, which never worked. Every single time we needed to enter the room, we had to either call the front desk or hunt down a maintenance worker outside to open the door for us. In the Florida heat and humidity, this became incredibly annoying and exhausting. Despite all these issues, nothing was offered to accommodate or compensate us for the inconvenience. 0/10 — would not recommend. Save your time, money, and sanity and book elsewhere.

The Island resort is old and run down. For the amount of money paid which includes the room fee, parking fee, resort fee and outrageous proces for food and drink, the upkeep should be much better. The putdoor heated pool had caution tape around it anf it was completely drained. No one even bothered to mention that at check in. The wallpaper was peeling in my room and the the overall feel of the place was just very old and outdated. I definitely recommend paying slightly more and getting a condo in Destin. The area is better and the value is better. Also just a few things that were annoying included smelling weed inside and outside everyday. Including in the hallways and while we were trying to enjoy our balcony. Also, because one pool was closed it forced everyone to the grotto pool. People were going outside at literally 730 in the morning and putting towels on an entire row of chairs. By 11am there was no where to sit but all the chairs were empty and covered with towels and random flip flops.

This resort was perfect! The view was incredible, the access to the beach was spectacular and the pool area was very big! And the bar was fast and great drink options! The bar food was surprisingly fast and delicious! The only down side of this resort was the parking lot had limited spaces so we had to park in the parking garage which is okay just far from our room. And the rooms are a little small for a resort, there was only two of us so it was fine but for a family of 4 I could be a bit tight! Overall the staff and property were great and we will definitely be back!
