One night winter getaway

This historic and iconic location is under new ownership, i.e. LOGE corporation. Many upgrades were needed, most have been done, some details are still in progress, but the place is fully open and available for a memorable stay. The staff is amazingly helpful! Shout out to Diana!! The railway goes right through the property, AMTRAK stops right at their door, so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs as several trains rumble through at night. The dining room has a fairly simple but delicious menu. The lower level has a bar, lounge area, TV, shuffleboard, foosball, games/cards. Trivia contest fills the seats! We only stayed one night, after cross-country skiing on wide, immaculately groomed trails. We stayed in the remodeled former barracks/schoolhouse which was updated to a large, modern, if a bit spartan room, but the idea isn’t to be inside, but OUTSIDE at LOGE locations. We did not get the chance to use the modern outdoor sauna. There used to be a massive hot tub at the former hotel, it is no longer there, but staff assured me that one is coming! Book one of the many cabooses or cabins, hike Glacier, etc. Or just sit and admire the graffiti on the cars as the freight trains trains roll pass! You won’t be disappointed.

Family and Friends ski weekend

We love Essex and the ability to stay with friends in the Withrow house is great. The house could use some better amenities however. Things like coffee maker or a French press at least, cutting boards and some pots and pans from this decade would have improved the stay. Better lighting and hooks throughout the house would also have made the stay better for winter, ski families. The LOGE staff was great though and tried to problem solve small things for us. We love the area and trails are top notch, so will be back as long as the snow and grooming is available!

You gotta try Izaak Walton LOGE!

We have been coming to Izaak Walton for 30 years and the new rendition is just as good(if not better!) than the last ownership group. Service was impeccable, with great Montana hospitably. I love they kept the "charm" while updating needed infrastructure. We will be back!!!

We loved our stay and the additions the new owners added to the property like allowing dogs and being very dog friendly and giving day cross country ski passes with our stay! We have gone here in years past and were concerned the new owners were going to take away the montana and historical feel of the property with remodel but they dod not.. just great add ons. Microwave and frig in rooms and a great varity of meals on menu. Our only complaints would be the chairs in lobby area were more for looks and not comfy for reading or playing games. Wish there would have been a Christmas tree in lobby and a working fire but these are small complaints and we will definitely be back!

Many of the updates were appreciated! The rooms looked fresh. Dinner was tasty and not over priced. One disappointment was the fact that they weren’t using the real fireplace in the lobby. In its place they had a YouTube video of a fake fire. It was tacky and unnecessary.

Great winter escape.

My wife and I were here for three nights to enjoy some winter solitude. The staff was great, and the facilities were very nice. The cross-country and snowshoe trails were an excellent, unexpected surprise—better than we had expected. The only negative was that there was no sit-down breakfast option.

Has potential but wasn't great

We stayed in the cabins. It wasn't big but had everything we needed and room for our family of 5. The cabin looked good on first impression but after unloading our things and moving around we realized there was dog hair all over the floor. Our socks were covered with it as was the couch. There was so much the kids were leaving chunks of it on the ladder as they went up to the lofts. There is no phone service and no way to contact the front desk so we had to walk over the bridge and to the desk. They tried to tell us there had been no dogs on property, even after we brought a chunk of hair with us. In the end they gave us a vacuum cleaner to carry back to our cabin and said they would leave a note for housekeeping. We had to go back and vacuum our own cabin. Overall the cabin and grounds were nice and a neat location, but staff made us seem like an inconvenience when we asked for anything.

Two things I didn't like were the fact that I arrived by train and they no longer transport you from the arrival platform to the hotel. THis could be a real problem in winter! Secondly, the dinner menu was very limited to what it was on my last visit and no real breakfast or lunch menu.

Check in staff was very rude. They try to send you a code with you room entry code but there is little cell reception when driving there from any direction. The top floor room had low ceiling beams that we hit our heads on and the microwave is installed on the floor as well.

An interesting property

An interesting building and a pleasant stay. Given a less than perfect score for the mattress/pillows (which were not to my liking) and to the squeaky floors (it's an old building) and lack of sound insulation (the upstairs lodger was bothersome on our first night there). Thought the trains would be a bother at night, but they were not. It was fun to hear them coming and then thundering by, even at night. This location is ideal for the park, as you are just about equidistant from both ends of the Going To The Sun Road, so it doesn't matter from which side you enter or depart the park, your ride to and from is always the same.

I really enjoyed my stay. The property is in a beautiful area right next to the railroad tracks. It can be loud but I found the trains coming through very soothing. The room was small but the space was adequate for my needs. It was also clean and the bed was very comfortable. Look forward to coming back with family next summer.

The place was so hard to get to. Gravel road with lots of potholes, 2.5 miles away from the building. The car will probably need a wheel alignment. Very poor signage to get there. Trains constantly going through out the night 109 feet away. The bed frame was metal and makes so much noise when you move. No light bulbs next to the bed lamps. It would be a nightmare to drive at night. Very decieving on the booking
