It is a quirky little place with odd shaped rooms filled with old furniture. If you like your modern cookie cutter hotels, then you might find this place to be a little too old world. The restaurant bar and staff are the highlight of this hotel. Sunday jazz brunches are delightful.

1. Parking is a big problem. The advertised "free parking" is over two blocks away. Only two non-handicapped spaces for short term parking in front of hotel is unacceptable. 2. Non-secure wi-fi. User beware. 3. Incessant vibration from fan or motor disturbed my sleep. I was on top floor and I assume source was rooftop equipment, but hotel wouldn't admit any possible source or problem. 4. 18% surcharge discovered on my credit card that wasn't mentioned to me and wasn't shown on my bill at time of checkout. I wouldn't recommend staying this hotel.

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to clarify a few concerns you expressed within this statement. a. Our free parking is within a five minute (at max) walk from the hotel, and we have enough handicapped parking to accommodate our guests who include their needs within their reservation prior to check-in. b. Our Wi-Fi is very safe and secure, as we do daily maintenance with our server and work closely with our providers to ensure, efficient, strong, and more importantly secure connectivity’s for all of our guests. c. This is an issue that we could have addressed and sent maintenance out to inspect, had it been communicated with our front desk staff during your two night stay. Please know we have had continues customers stay in the room mentioned in your statement who have not mentioned this disruption but I will investigate and if there is finding, have the issue resolved. d. This was not a charge or fee, this was an authorization –hold-, which we practice with all of our guests to ensure that is held until departure for any incidentals. In addition this that, I would like to emphasize that your final bill consists of only room charges, taxes, and nothing additional. Once again, thank you for your input, we will work hard to ensure that miscommunications such as this, can be avoided at all cause in the future, so that all of our guests can have not only a memorable experience, but a pleasurable one, here at the Write Inn Hotel.

Room was very small. Wall paper peeling off bathroom wall, bathroom door knob smashed in, coffe pot dirt with left over coffe from previous guest, hall ways smelled foul, barking dog in the room across the hall, all in all not a great experience. Very letdown.

Boutique Style

Pros: Same as above but also the historic charm of an old hotel in a historic area of Chicagoland.
Cons: Keep the charm as long as you can.
Location: Oak Park has many good restaurants and shops. The Hemingway House and Hemingway Museum are practically next door. The Frank Lloyd Wright home -a must!

fantastic location - european style hotel

This hotel is an older building which has a little old fashion flair and charm.  We stayed in one of the (2) double bed rooms at the top floor - offering plenty of room and lots of nice natural light.   My first impression was that the hallways and circulation spaces seemed a little bit dingy and narrow (some construction near the elevator) but our room was spectacularly clean and the maid service was efficient and spotless each day.  And there couldn't be a better location for Oak Park - in the heart of beautiful homes and great restaurants, and so many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings easily walkable from here (Unity Temple and FLW's home/studio included).  Ernest Hemingway's birthplace and museum adjacent.  Parking was off-site/down the block in a garage but completely free for 4 days. We parked our car and took the Green line train into Chicago which made transportation easy.  The folks at the desk were not overly talkative but they did answer our questions and one person gave good recommendations for dining.  Our overall experience was good - cozy and reasonably priced.  We would definitely stay here again.

Cheap, Convenient Stay

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
This hotel was very cheap and in a convenient location. The Hemmingway Museum is right across the street and the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum is around the corner. The neighborhood was very friendly and safe. Only a one block walk down Oak Park Ave. will get you a variety of food, beverages, and shopping. A couple blocks down Lake Street, you will find the same. The train station is only two blocks down Oak Park Ave. Our room was small and old, BUT it was very clean, comfortable, and had a large fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and hair dryer. The parking and wi-fi were both free. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

Charming place, reminding me of 1920's elegance.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
The hotel has all the structural detail of the older building, but has modern amenities. I'm sure the rooms did not originally have their own baths! I'm sure that when the hotel was built guest arrived by train and took a taxi to the hotel. Fortunately, there is now a parking garage only two blocks away. I enjoyed my stay, and only wish I could have spent more time in the room!
