This is the place if you love architecture and history. The Grand Old Lady is like stepping back in time. The room had a rustic charm. The three evenings we were there, my husband and I enjoyed reading on the porch. It was a quick drive to WCU. The dining room was beautiful, and I wish that I could get married again. This would be the spot. We would stay here again!

Great seclusion in the mountains.

Pros: Classic and nostalgic. Like stepping back in time to escape the busyness of the times.
Cons: Continue ongoing updates without losing the charm that is so defining of this beautiful Inn.
Location: Beautiful location. Nearby towns of Sylva and Dillsboro good spots for strolls and antique shopping. Asheville is a short trip for sight-seeing.
Relaxing peace and quiet. Love the front porch, rocking chairs, and cool higher altitude temperatures. Good balance of conveniences and charm of days gone by.

Very quaint turn of the century inn. Lacks modern day amenities, facilities should be upgraded. Rooms are very cramped quarters an bathroom might as well be non exsistent .Dinner in the dinning hall was the highlight of out stay excellent meal moderately priced. The included Breakfast on the other hand is very spruce, and perceived to be packaged prepared.

Beautiful inn

My husband and I visited here on our way to see the eclipse, and I knew I had to bring my friends also. We made a girlfriends long weekend and visit to the end in late fall and it was absolutely wonderful. Friendly and helpful staff clean comfortable rooms and beautiful views.

Charming historic hotel.

Pros: Loved the charm of fireplaces and long porches with rocking chairs.
Location: located just outside the smokey mountain national park-so lots of hiking trails, shopping and the hotel frequently offers country music concerts.
What a wonderful, quiet step back in time. The most charming place that I have ever stayed. Nestled in the mountains with wonderful long porches and no TV. It was spotless, with cozy bedding. A unique and special experience.

Don't Miss This Lovely Inn!

Pros: Kind and helpful staff, quiet and restful environment, quaint rooms, delicious BIG breakfast and the long history of the inn/railroad hotel.
If you're looking for a haven of peace and rest and hospitality in Western North Carolina, look no further than the Balsam Mountain Inn. This old inn is full of charm and a walk through its halls is a wonderful little taste of a mountain craft show. There's a walking trail on the premises for those who want fresh mountain air and sunshine. The rocking chairs on the front porch are also a great way to take in a lovely view of the mountains. Alternatively, there's the quaint library (with hot tea or hot chocolate provided) and sitting areas throughout for those who enjoy a day of reading or quiet reflection. A full breakfast is included in the room rate and the blueberry pancakes, bacon, muffin and fruit option will not disappoint! The staff were very welcoming and hospitable throughout my stay, kindly attending to any need or request promptly. I will definitely be returning to Balsam Mountain Inn and passing the word to friends and family about this beautiful place in the mountains.
