This place is fantastic! We have been very pleased with the staff, service, and overall experience. We were able to park right in front of our room, we had great breakfast with excellent food, and the employees were all very nice.

22 miles from Carlsbad Caverns

Pros: Large, comfortable room.
Location: South end of Carlsbad. Caverns 20 minutes away. Cloudcroft about 1 and half hours away, if you want the mountains of Lincoln National Forest.
Good location on south side of town. Nice, large parking area and common grounds. Large and comfortable desk and lobby/business center. Very comfortable beds with plump pillows. Large room with plenty of space to spread out. Clean, well-maintained outdoor pool. Fitness center isn't much to brag about. Very small with minimal equipment.

Great hotel if you like dirty rooms

We did a cross-country road trip and stayed exclusively at Best Western hotels. Of all the ones were we stayed, this was hands down the worst. The reception area of the hotel is very nice, and the restaurant has a nice motif, but the rooms are extremely sub-par. I normally don’t complain about room quality, but these were bad. When we walked in the room, we noticed a large discoloration on the carpet, and whatever it was, it was still wet. The carpets were torn around the baseboards, the bathroom had a terrible mildew smell, and the bathroom sinks had no stoppers. The worst part was the sheets, which had large stains on them. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was also sub-par; not bad, but definitely overpriced for the quality of food. One of the things we got was blackened chicken, which was a piece of cooked chicken with a piece of cheese slapped on it, and not even melted. I will say that the staff was very nice (hotel and restaurant). The breakfast was an average continental breakfast, but my main complaint is that the coffee is served by waitresses. Great idea for a diner or café, but this is a hotel continental breakfast where I want to get my food and go. I prefer to get my own coffee (they had no creamer), and I’d like to take some on the road (no to-go cups). They could save some $$ by having their breakfast servers clean the rooms.

Friendly Staff, Dirty Beds

Pros: Free breakfast
Cons: dirty
All of the staff we spoke to were friendly and as helpful as they could be. But the room was as described in the other posts below. Both beds in our room had questionable stains on them and I question whether they had been washed since the last guest's stay. Our TV went back and forth between fuzzy and clear like the rabbit ears needed adjustment (no, there weren't really rabbit ears). Probably a quarter of the guests there stayed up late having a parking lot party. Luckily the room was pretty sound proof, so it wasn't an issue if you were inside. The restaurant was decent and the included breakfast buffet was a big enough plus that I won't give this place a "horrible" rating. I think I will stay at a "hotel" rather than a "motel" if I ever go back. Hopefully that will be cleaner. But the Cavern was really awesome, especially if you go mid week when it's empty. If you go to the Bat Show, know that many of the bats have moved away and it's not the huge column of bats you see on TV.

Not a "Best" Western!!

This place is very shabby and worn. The linens are worn and have holes in the sheets, the pillows are lumpy like they have been washed too many times and the stuffing is all bunched up. The furnishings are mis-matched, furniture is scratched, chipped and damaged and appears to be garage sale pick-ups. Old grimmy drapes, yukky & sticky floors & carpet. There is not sufficient electrical outlets to plug in chargers and computer, let alone a high speed connection! This place is definitely not Best Western quality and not worth the per night room rate. I do not recommend it, will not stay here again, and will advise all my aquaintances to avoid it.

Shabby and Gross, but the Breakfast was OK

When we first arrived at our room, I found a roach hunkered down beneath the sink area, and was immediately grossed out! After I disposed of the critter and looked around, I was less than thrilled. The one-story building we stayed in looks like it was a cheaply renovated old-school motel. The furniture and beds were adequate but very utilitarian looking (think cheap dorm furniture). We also had issues with the toilet- anything more than a normal-sized wad of t.p., and the toilet wouldn't flush everything down properly. We had to ask the front desk for a plunger to fix the problem. The only good thing about this place is the free breakfast that came with it the next morning. The biscuits and gravy were yummy, and they had fruit, eggs, toast, bacon, french toast and pancakes.

This hotel has seen better days

No hot tub as advertised...had counted on same after local hiking and spelunking...pool was ice cold, but new...maybe they got rid of the old hottub... Local like the hotel's brunch...nothing special about it but served by friendly staff... Rooms are worn down by years of tourist visits...rooms are tired looking....staff seems friendly enough.... This is a two-star hotel...several others in area look to be in better shape...

Repulsive!

The room was full of live and dead roaches. I watched as roaches crawled up and down the walls - traveled between rooms through the suite doors - crawled over the beds. I never even sat down in the room. The walls were lined with dead roaches and under the bed skirting were more dead roaches. I've seen rooms like this on TV but never experienced them myself. I finally called the front desk to let them know. They had only one smoking room left. I can't handle the smoke, so I got a refund.

Poor maintenance and food

The room was large but not clean. In fact, the in-room coffee pot had not been cleaned. There were coffee rings on the bedside table. The coffee rings were there when we left. The room was large with double sinks, but there was dirt behind the door of the bathroom that stayed there during the entire stay. The same is true of the entry area. The safety chain device was broken and it was hard to find a place to plug in a phone charger. The complimentary breakfast was a "heart-attack special." Greasy bacon, gravy, bisquits, fried potatoes and scrambled eggs were offered. There was no yogurt. There was dry cereal and a bowl of oranges and apples. We ate the first morning and checked the second morning to see it the offerings had changed. It had not changed so we did not eat there again. The grounds, with the exception of the pool area, were trashy. We won't stay there again.
